August 27th, 2021
Good Afternoon Braeside Families,
Welcome to the 2021 – 2022 school year! The staff at Braeside are very excited to
welcome you and your child(ren) back to school next week on Wednesday September
1st. The first week of school always brings a buzz of joy from staff, students and family
members. Staff have been working hard to ensure that all students have a smooth
transition and start to the school year.
In this message you will find important information that will help you and your child(ren)
prepare and plan for the upcoming school year.
Your child(ren)’s teacher:
During the afternoon of Monday August 30th, you will receive a “Welcome Letter” from
your child(ren)’s teacher. In this letter the teacher will introduce themselves, provide
information about where to meet on the first day of school and outline what your
child(ren) needs to bring with them. The teacher will include their contact information,
please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
If you have not received an email from your child’s teacher by Monday August 30th at
2:30 pm please call the school office (403-777-8470 ext. 0).
School hours and calendar:
Grades 1 – 6 students will attend Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 2:40
pm with a lunch break from 11:45 am to 12:30 pm and Fridays from 8:00 am to 12:00
pm. In the morning teachers will start greeting students at their assigned doors at 7:50
am to allow for a “soft entry”. This provides students an opportunity to enter the school
in a staggered manner, settle into their classroom and be ready to learn right at 8:00
am.
Currently we have 1 PM (or afternoon) Kindergarten class. Kindergarten students will
attend Monday through Thursday from 11:58 am to 2:40 pm and Fridays from 8:00 am to
10:42 am. (Please note that on Wednesday September 1st and Thursday September
2nd Kindergarten students are starting with a staggered entry and students with last
names A – M will attend from 11:58 am to 1:18 pm and students with last names N – Z
will attend from 1:20 pm to 2:40 pm only for these two days).
When dropping off and picking up your child please refrain from gathering close to the
school doors, as we will be promoting physical distancing as much as possible with our
students.

COVID-19 Information:
Please click here to access all the up-to-date information regarding COVID-19 and the
measures put in place in CBE schools for the 2021 – 2022 school year. As you are aware,
the Calgary Board of Education has mandated masking indoors for all staff and students
from kindergarten to grade 12 for the start of the school year. These means that all
students will need to wear a mask when entering the building. Please click here to access CBE's mask guidelines.
All staff and students entering Braeside School will need to complete the COVID-19
Alberta Health Daily Checklist. Please click here to access the checklist.
If a student is exhibiting symptoms identified on the checklist, parents / guardians will be
contacted to pick their child up. In the first week of school a “Demographic Verification”
report will come home with your child. Please ensure all contact information listed is
correct, make any necessary changes, sign and send the form back to school.
Communication:
Your child(ren)’s teacher will communicate with you primarily through email or their
Google Classroom. In addition to this you will receive a weekly message from
administration. Please ensure that you have subscribed to SchoolMessenger so that you
don’t miss out on any important information. Please click here for more information or
to subscribe to SchoolMessenger. All classes at Braeside School this year will have an on-
line Google Classroom. Your child(ren)’s teacher will provide more information
about how to access Google Classroom in the first few weeks of school.
We hope that everyone is able to rest and relax over the next few days and truly
look forward to greeting students on Wednesday September 1st!
Take care,
Melanie Bennett and Fiona Johnson
