Punctuality & Attendance Expectations
As outlined in the Alberta Education Act, the responsibility for regular and punctual attendance, which is necessary for satisfactory school progress, lies with the student and parents. Attendance is taken daily. If your child is late or going to be absent, it is your responsibility to notify the school. We must verify all absences, so the office will call or email you if your child is not in class. The school opens at 7:45 each morning for students get themselves organized for the day. Learning begins at 8:00 AM.
Students, who have an appointment or have to leave before regular dismissal time, must sign out at the office. Permission to be excused from school can only be granted by the office upon request by a parent or guardian.
Occasionally students are absent or late for school for planned or unintended reasons. It is very important that students maintain punctual attendance habits. Positive attendance habits promote academic success and serve people well throughout their lives. We expect students will attend school every day unless they are sick or have appointments that cannot be scheduled outside school time. We do not recommend that students take extended absences in the middle of the school year. It is recommended that families plan holiday leaves during winter, spring, or summer break; thereby ensuring students’ educational experiences are not interrupted. Homework is not provided for students on extended vacations during school time. These absences are recorded as unexcused.
