The CBE's Approach to Community Engagement

Dialogue is the Calgary Board of Education’s approach to community engagement. It is a mutually respectful exchange of ideas that acknowledges and celebrates the diversity within the CBE community. It represents our ongoing commitment to involve people in decisions that affect them.

We know we make better decisions when we listen and work together to solve problems and find solutions. When we do, our students are better equipped to become successful citizens who contribute their ideas, passion and energy to society.

There can be no dialogue without you. Find out more about Dialogue as well as current and past system engagement initiatives on the CBE’s website.

Balancing Enrolment at Schools in the Community of Panorama Hills

Over the past few years, student enrolment at Captain Nichola Goddard School has been increasing and the school is projected to be over-capacity for the next several years. A plan is needed to address student enrolment at the school, ensuring effective use of space to support student learning.

The Area office, CBE Property, Planning and Transportation, Communication and Engagement Services and principals at Panorama Hills, Buffalo Rubbing Stone, and Captain Nichola Goddard schools have worked together to explore possible options. This exploration resulted in a recommended plan shared at a parent meeting Nov. 21, 2018 at Captain Nichola Goddard School. View the Nov. 21 presentation.

We are making modifications to the plan to respond to feedback and to adjust for transportation implications in the far west of the community. The modified plan will be shared on school websites by Dec. 19. At that time, we will also launch an online survey to gather your feedback on the modified plan. The survey will remain open until Jan. 9, 2019.

Decision-makers will review feedback from the online survey and confirm the decision by Jan. 11, 2019. The timing of the decision is to provide kindergarten families with information prior to the start of kindergarten registration on Jan. 14, 2019.
