Attendance

Attendance Line: 403-777-8600 ext. 1.

If your child will be absent or late, call us. Our attendance line is available 24/7. It helps if you call before 8:00 a.m. If you have not contacted the school, we will be calling you.

Attendance / Lates

Regular attendance is a necessary prerequisite to success at school. Students are required to attend every day the school is in operation unless prohibited from doing so because of illness or a family emergency. All absences need to be accounted for through a note or phone call to the school. We attempt to have attendance completed 10 minutes after start time.

When there is an unreported absence, we will follow the Phone Home for Safety Program protocol. Please note that family holidays are classified as an “unexcused absence” on student attendance reports. Students are expected to arrive at school on time. Instructional time is lost when students arrive late and more importantly, timeliness or “On time! All the time!” as we say here, is a life skill. Parents are expected to support the school and model the teaching of this skill. The Alberta School Act requires that we work together to support children in this learning.

Late Policy

Students who arrive at school late are to report to the office for a late slip before going to class. An “excused” late is defined as a medical appointment or other event of that status. All other late arrivals are considered “unexcused”. Parents of students who are frequently late will be contacted by an administrator in order to develop strategies together that will help the student arrive at school on time. Parents are asked to not accompany their child to their classrooms if they are late for reasons of safety and security and to avoid disrupting teaching and learning time.

Doctor & Dentist Appointments

It is requested that appointments be made, if possible, outside of school hours. Children miss instruction that is impossible to make up if they are taken out during school hours. If this cannot be avoided, we ask that a note explaining the reason and time be sent to the teacher. Parents should meet their child at the school office to sign them out.

Pick-Up & Drop-Off

Please avoid picking up your children before the designated lunch or afternoon dismissal times. The final minutes of the morning and afternoon are important organizational times for students and teachers.

Attendance Expectations at the CBE

We believe there is a strong correlation between attendance and effective education. The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students regulation applies to all of our students, and outlines the responsibilities for students, parents and school staff.
