One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

School Council

Meetings

All families are welcome to attend School Council and Parent Association meetings. You are a member of the School Council if your child attends this school. We value your attendance at the meeting and encourage your involvement. Parent involvement, volunteering, and your input allows us to offer amazing programs and initiatives at CJP.

All School Council meetings take place in person at CJP (in the Learning Commons) and virtually at 6:30 PM. The Parents Association meeting immediately follows. We welcome and encourage all families to join for both. We invite parents/guardians to arrive or log in at 6:15 for conversation and networking. ALL parents/guardians are encouraged to attend.

Approved meeting minutes will be posted on the right hand side of this page when available.

Membership

All families with a child who attends CJP are automatically a member of the School Council. The School Council plays an important advisory role to school leadership. Without parents present at School Council meetings it is difficult to learn about your priorities, concerns and celebrations. CJP school leadership attends School Council meetings, often requesting feedback and suggestions to ensure parent and guardian voices are heard before school wide decisions are made.

All CJP families also have an opportunity to be part of the School Council Leadership Team. There are a number of key positions currently vacant. These positions will all require about 5 hours of your time each month. This might be a small amount of time for you, it is a huge and impactful role for the school. Please consider getting involved!

We value the participation of all families at our School Council meetings and hope to see you at the next meeting so we are able to hear your voice as well!
