Lottery

Captain John Palliser School uses a lottery process for its Montessori Program only.

Our next Montessori Open House will be hosted from 6:00 - 7:00pm on Wednesday January 16, 2019. We look forward to welcoming all interested parents to this informational evening.

Lottery Process

If we receive registrations beyond our capacity, a lottery will be held to determine which students can attend the school. The lottery process provides straightforward answers for school administrators, school councils and parents/guardians about the order in which students are accepted into a school that does not have enough space for all students in the designated area. It also provides a consistent approach across the system, rather than having variation from school to school in the process.  

The priorities for acceptance are as follows:

Priority 1

  • Students residing within the walk zone who have a sibling that will be attending in the same program in the same school, concurrent

Priority 2

  • Students living outside the walk zone who will have a sibling in the same school at the same time OR

  • Students living within the walk zone who do not have a sibling in the school

Priority 3

  • All other students living in the designated attendance area

(Please note, there are a limited number of schools or communities with slight revisions to the above priorities: Rocky Ridge/Royal Oak, Glamorgan and Willow Park.) 

Students who are not successful in the lottery will be designated to a different school.
