While travelling around Calgary in recent months, you may have seen our banner reading "Connect - Learn - Create - Succeed Online." Each of these terms represent key aspects of our work at CBe-learn. Whether students are in grade 1 or grade 12, our students excel as online learners when they engage and connect with their teachers and peers, exercise their creativity, and innovate while interacting with subject matter. We see many examples of students doing just this, and are proud of the great work that is being done by CBe-learn students and staff.
Spring is here and it's a time of year when we often find ourselves looking ahead toward things to come. Students might be thinking about the last couple of months of the school year and their remaining assignments, projects, and assessments. Grade 12 students are likely thinking about graduation and next year plans. Families might be considering the summer ahead and plans for a vacation or "staycation."
At CBe-learn, we are looking ahead too and are well into thinking about the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. To this end, we appreciate our families taking the time to complete any surveys that we send out. Also, we encourage families of our grade 1-11 full-time students to let our office know if you are planning a change such that your child(ren) will not be continuing with us at CBe-learn next year. Related circumstances might be a move outside of Calgary, a return to in-person learning, or others. This information is important to us so that we can accurately plan for the upcoming school year and can best support you along the way.
As always, a huge thanks to our families for the support of your child and our program.
As we approach Winter Break, it is hard to believe that we have already completed 40% of the current school year and almost all of the first semester. During this time, we have seen many success stories from CBe-learn students, and our staff are proud of the great work that students do each day. We hope that the holidays will provide students, staff and their families some well-deserved time for relaxation, celebration, and connection with the people you care about most. Happy holidays and, to those who celebrate it a very merry Christmas! We look forward to our ongoing work together in 2023!
S. Klukas, Principal
The 2022-2023 school year is well underway and we are excited about the many opportunities for learning and connection that have come with it. In our office, August and September were busy for us. We welcomed hundreds of new students to CBe-Learn while also assisting hundreds of others who, as the pandemic has evolved, returned to in-person learning. These transitions are complete, and we are thrilled to be working with close to 1300 full-time students this year. Additionally, we are happy to be working with hundreds of students from other CBE high schools who are also taking a high school course with us as "concurrent" students.
We have a fantastic team of amazing teachers, administrators, and support staff who are here to support you and who work hard to do so every day. Recent feedback from our school community illustrates that this support and the flexibility that CBe-Learn provides is helpful and appreciated. We're pleased to be able to provide it. Please reach out with any questions that you might have. We are proud of our school and feel privileged to be working with our students and families.
Wishing our community a wonderful autumn!
S. Klukas, Principal
Dear Students and Families,
I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to work with you as I transition into the position of principal at CBe-learn, Chinook Learning Services, and CBE Home Education. I believe that our role, and my own, is to support each student on their learning journey. Our programs offer unique opportunities to do so, and I’m thrilled to be joining you as we continue moving forward on this path.
I was previously the principal at H.D. Cartwright, a middle school in the community of Dalhousie. Prior to my time at HDC, I also served as the principal at Thomas B. Riley, Colonel Macleod, and Briar Hill School. I have a significant interest in teaching and learning with technology and am on the CBE’s Technology Council. Within and outside of the CBE, I have worked with a wide range of individuals from very young children to young adults in various communities around Calgary. I look forward to working with our staff and students in the rich and diverse environment that makes up CBe-learn, Chinook, and CBE Home Education.
As I make this transition, I want to acknowledge the fantastic work that Ken Weipert has done in this role and express my thanks for his ongoing support. I know that I am stepping into big shoes. I am looking forward to working with Mr. Weipert, our administrative staff, and the broader school community as we continue building on the fantastic work that is already underway.
The new school year is well underway. Welcome all new CBe-learn students and families.
