Elementary School Courses (grades 1 - 5)

CBe-learn offers a full elementary school program to facilitate full-time, year-long study.  Our elementary program includes a strong focus on literacy and numeracy throughout each of the following subject areas:

  • English Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Physical Education
  • Health & Wellness

Students acquire knowledge and develop skills as they interact with their teachers and content through Google Classroom. Students will engage with a range of technologies and traditional tools to support learning.  Teachers will guide students and their caregivers as they explore new tools.

Caregiver support is essential to the success of learners in the elementary online program. A caregiver acts as a learning coach to help the student develop positive learner habits and academic skills. In addition to planning for the exploration of curriculum, teachers also guide caregivers as effective learning coaches.  Learning-focused communication between teacher and learning coach is key.

Asynchronous instruction includes the use of video and audio recordings, visuals and written texts.  There is flexibility within teacher-suggested timelines as to when learners and their families access asynchronous materials.  A learner and their coach may access asynchronous materials as many times as needed to support the introduction of concepts and the review of learning.

During synchronous instruction students interact with their teacher and peers as they explore content and develop skills. During synchronous instruction teachers watch and listen to their learners. Students are encouraged to take risks and demonstrate their current understanding during synchronous interactions.  Doing so allows teachers to best gauge and guide learning.  Synchronous sessions are scheduled in advance and are not recorded for future access.

We look forward to working with YOU in our online elementary program!

Middle School Courses (grades 6 - 9)

CBe-learn offers a full complement of middle school courses to facilitate full-time or part-time studies.

Here is a list of the middle school courses that we offer in our learning environment:

*French as a Second Language (FSL) is an option available for students who are interested in the program.

Career & Technology Foundations

Career and Technology Foundations (CTF) components are incorporated into the junior high core courses.

The CTF program of studies was launched by Alberta Education to replace the previous complimentary course program of studies. At CBe-learn, students in junior high will take part in multidisciplinary project-based learning. The semester long projects will give students an exposure to many of the 5 different occupational clusters:

  • Business
  • Human Services
  • Communication
  • Resources, and
  • Technology

Live Room / Bongo Schedule

Live Room (Bongo) is an online shared environment where you can communicate with your teacher and share information in a visual and auditory way.

  • There is a shared whiteboard space where files, drawings or presentations can be uploaded and shared.
  • It uses voice technology, so with a headset or microphone, you’ll be able to talk and listen directly to your teacher or your classmates.
  • It can be used with the class, small groups or as a one-on-one communication tool when needed.
  • It takes place in real-time, and can be much more dynamic than text-based communication methods.

The CBe-learn Middle School program has a set schedule where students are expected to be online learning with their teacher.
