There are many opportunities for students to earn and achieve financial support for post-secondary studies.
Students should actively seek out and research all available financial support. They can see their guidance counselor for more details. As scholarships and bursaries have firm guidelines and application deadlines, students should leave themselves ample time to complete the application process. Students should make note of all deadlines and ensure they have all documentation in on time. There are many opportunities available for scholarship outside of grade 12 as well. It is never too soon to begin to seek out opportunities and to apply. Some scholarships have deadlines as early as October to apply for funds for the following academic year!
A scholarship is awarded first on the basis of academic achievement while a bursary is awarded primarily on the basis of financial need. Neither has to be repaid. More Information is available from Student Services.
Many post-secondary institutes and scholarship granting agencies, require references. Teachers and administration write many letters for students. Being specific in the purpose of the reference letter and ensuring students allow ample time to complete the letter is always very helpful and makes for a stronger reference in the end.
Some scholarships and bursaries require sponsorship from the school (a reference etc.), if you are a CBe-learn student and would like to request sponsorship for a bursary or scholarship, start by reviewing the Scholarship and Bursary Sponsorship process for CBe-learn.
Lana Hanson was an exceptional math teacher who inspired her CBe-learn students and colleagues alike. Her passion and enthusiasm for teaching, learning and the arts, was communicable as she awakened those who had the privilege to work with her to drive for deeper mathematical connections in a broader context, thus creating a learning landscape/canvas much greater than our own imaginations.
In memory of her passion and dedication, the staff at CBe-learn have established this scholarship that recognizes the achievements of a CBe-learn student in the field of Math. This award is available to students whose primary high school at the time of application is CBe-learn. The student must have successfully completed at least two Math courses at the -30 level through CBe-learn.
To apply for the scholarship, please contact the CBe-learn Student Services Team or go to the Education Matters website for the application itself.
