Dear Cedarbrae Families,

We hope you all had a wonderful weekend enjoying the warm weather on Sunday.  Students have now settled in nicely to their literacy and math groups, and have been working on skills to support their reading and math development.  On Friday, teachers spent the morning looking at our school development plan goal for literacy.  We discussed strategies to support vocabulary development in order to strengthen students reading comprehension, writing, and understanding of concepts across subjects. We are excited to begin this work with students in the coming weeks!

Traffic Outside School/Bus Lane

We have been noticing some more congestion outside the school in the mornings and after school and anticipate that the traffic will increase once it gets cooler.  Please make sure you are not parking or stopping in the bus lane as we have three buses that drop off students each morning and need to use all the designated lane to make a safe stop.  Your understanding and cooperation to keep our students safe is much appreciated.

A list of important reminders and upcoming events are listed below.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Regards,

Leanne Murphy,

Principal, Cedarbrae School

Principal Announcement

Hello Cedarbrae Families and Friends,

It is both with excitement and sadness that I am letting you know that I have accepted the position as Principal of Children's Village School commencing this week.

My four years at Cedarbrae has taught me much in terms relationships, and academic success. I wish to thank you for your support, kind words and all your encouragement over the years.  Cedarbrae is a strong community with amazing students and staff who will go on to achieve great things.

I am very pleased to share that Ms. Lisa Thomson will assume the role of Acting Principal effective immediately.  The hiring for a new Principal will commence as part of our fall staffing process, with the goal of having a new principal in place as soon as possible.  Education Director, Darlene Unruh has created a survey to seek your input into attributes we as a community are seeking in our new principal.  Staff, students and parents will have access via this link https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=hxMW71old0evNoC4_OTuc2Aj_nCUnD1LukcBxiD79f9UNjRBUjYzSlNMTUhYN0ZWSUZWNzJVT1hJSi4u

It has very much been an honour to serve this community.  I wish you and your families the best for the upcoming school year.

Sincerely,

Kristi Jardine

Budget

Dear Parents,

The Oct. 24 provincial budget left the CBE with a $32 million shortfall. As this is a mid-year cut, the CBE must act quickly to present a balanced budget to the Board of Trustees before January 2020.

Complex decisions are being made in a short time frame to balance our budget. One of the most difficult decisions is to end full-year temporary teaching contracts at CBE schools. Temporary staff were informed today, and the cuts will be effective January 2, 2020.

This budget decision impacts our school; some of our students are in classrooms with temporary contract teachers. While this decision may impact your child in January, please know we will continue to support positive transitions and effective teaching and learning. Continuity of learning is important, and we are working to minimize disruption to the greatest extent possible.

We are in the midst of making several other decisions to cover our budget gap and will update you as soon as possible.

Thank you

Kristi Jardine
