First Day of Classes - Grade 1-6

The first day of classes for Grades 1-6 is Thursday, September 1, 2022.  Teachers will meet students, parents/guardians and other caregivers outside near their grade based designated entry/exit doors. (Please see the map below indicating the grade based entry/exit doors.)  Following the first day of school, we will offer a soft morning entry as described below under the heading School Start and End Times

First Day of Classes - Kindergarten

Kindergarten classes begin on Thursday, September 1, 2022. Kindergarten will follow a staggered entry, with smaller groups attending at different times throughout the day.  There will be no school for Kindergarten children on Friday, September 2, 2022.

Please watch for an email from your Kindergarten teacher explaining the time that your child is to attend.  Kindergarten children will use the garden doors.  (Please see the map below indicating the grade based entry/exit doors.)

School Start & End Times

Starting on Tuesday, September 6, a soft morning entry will be implemented.  Soft entry sees students entering the school between 8:30 and 8:40 AM.  Please remember that our attendance bell rings at 8:40 AM.  Students will use their assigned doors for this purpose.

Our attendance bell times are as follows:

Drop off & Pick up

There is very limited parking around the school.  If you plan to drive your students to school, please consider parking 1-3 blocks away from the building.  The curb side directly in front of the main entrance of the school on Chaparral Drive is a dedicated bus zone.  All other curb side parking is considered kiss and drive.  The residences across the street from the school feature large driveways that make parking very difficult.  It is extremely important that we respect the homeowners by NOT blocking their driveways.  Chapalina Close also becomes a busy spot at drop off.  Again, this is a kiss and drive zone, meaning curb side parking should not exceed 2 minutes.

Students should dismount and walk bikes and scooters once they reach the sidewalks around the school, on the school grounds, and in the crosswalks.

Parents/guardians must remain outside of the school to drop off their children.  They must not enter the school during high traffic times unless approved by the principal.

While we are hoping to reintroduce our Student Safety Patrols early in the fall, adult supervisors will continue monitor for safe crossing.

School Supplies

Most of the supplies required by students in K-6 are provided by the school. Students will need the following personal items:

  • Snack (please try to send low to no garbage snacks)
  • Lunch (please remember to include utensils such as spoons and forks)
  • Water bottle
  • Back pack
  • Indoor shoes appropriate for Physical Education (i.e., running shoes that fit well and stay on the child’s feet).

***Please label all belongings with first name and last initial.

School Calendar

View our School Calendar for upcoming events and dates. See the CBE website for system calendars.

Lunch Supervision

Lunch supervision will be available on the first day of school. The noon break runs from 12:03 -12:52 PM. Students will eat lunch in their classrooms. Please avoid sending any food items that contain nuts or nut products. Please also avoid sending food that requires heating, and remember to pack appropriate utensils.

In alignment with CBE Administrative Regulation AR – 6005 Student Code of Conduct, students are expected to  demonstrate the same commitment to good citizenship as they do throughout their school day.

Assigned Teachers

Please check your email inbox on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 for a message from your student's new teacher.  In addition to introducing themselves to you, the teacher’s message will communicate other important information about their class/grade.

Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families starting in October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.

You can find more information on the CBE school fees and waivers page.

Yellow School Bus Transportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2023-24 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in June. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

More information about 2023-24 transportation service levels and proposed fees are posted on the CBE website.

Your bus stop location and time will be available in your MyCBE account by mid-August.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed. Should routes change or if qualified students are added to a route and the bus becomes overcrowded, conditional riders may be removed to accommodate these changes.

Learn more about transportation on the CBE website.
