Year-End Message for Families
Dear Chris Akkerman Families,
Hard to believe we are in the last month of the 2019 – 2020 school year and we are in the third month of continuous online learning. We are busy planning for next school and anticipating that school will begin on September 1 for all students. If we are asked to make alternate arrangements, this will be communicated by CBE.
Thank you so much for your support with your children and their teachers during this difficult time. This message contains essential information for you so please spend the time reviewing each section.
Report Cards – for the last reporting period of the year, CBE has directed all schools to use the online version of the report card for parents/legal guardians. The report card will be available to view/print through MyCBE/PowerSchool account. Once logged in, you will see an additional tab titled ‘Report Card’ – select this tab to view the report card. We will notify families when the report card is available for viewing on June 26.
If you have not already set up a MyCBE/PowerSchool account you will need to do this. Instructions can be found here : MyCBE/PowerSchool
June 26 – Last day of ongoing online learning classes.
Appeals Day – June 29 – should you have questions of concerns about your child’s report card – parents are invited to contact their child’s teacher by e-mail. All teachers will also be available from 8:00-noon (by e-mail) on Appeals Day.
IPPs – the process for this will be different this year due to our current situation. Teachers will be in contact with parents regarding their child’s IPP and hard copies of the IPP will be mailed home during the month of June.
Transportation - Families can register their child for yellow school bus transportation online. Registration opened on May 19. Please register using your MyCBE / PowerSchool account. Pre-registration closes June 14, 2020.
As you know, there have been significant fee increases for the 2020 – 2021 school year. Information was sent out about this. Fees for alternative program transportation have increased to $800/year for Grades 1-5 and $400/year for Kindergarten.
2020 – 2021 School Budget – there is information on our main page about our next budget next year. Please take the time to review this information and to complete the survey. More information will be shared at our last school council meeting on June 8.
Kindergarten – Beginning in the 2020 – 2021 school year, Kindergarten will move to an alternating full-day schedule. This is due to the CBE cancelling mid-day busing due to a decreased budget. This information has been passed on to our new Chris Akkerman families starting Kindergarten next year. More information can be found on our main page.
Grade 5 Farewell – normally we would be holding a large-scale celebration at the school to recognize and honor our Grade 5 students who are moving onto Middle School. Our Grade 5 team has been working hard on ways to recognize and celebrate our students in an online fashion. They will be providing information and details around this farewell to Grade 5 parents this month.
Volunteers – We were so sad to not be able to hold a volunteer appreciation celebration at the school in May. We want to thank everyone who volunteered this school year before classes were cancelled. We couldn’t do this amazing work without your support.
Thank you volunteers for all your help in the 2019-2020 school year. The year would not have been the same without you.
Hello families! Please stop by the front office and place a marker on the world map to indicate where your family originates from. We'd love to see you during Parent Conferences on Thursday night and Friday morning!
Thanks to all families and staff for a great first week of School! Please mark your calendar for our first parent council meeting on September 23rd at 6:30 pm. All parents are 😃welcome!
Kindergarten Orientation is tonight (June 13th) at 6:30pm. If your child has been accepted into Kindergarten at Chris Akkerman School for the 2019-20 school year, then you should attend this meeting. https://t.co/kFbpRuYxCs
