Illness & Medical

It is important that you call the school if your child is absent or arriving late. Please report all absences to the Attendance Line at 403-777-8063 ext. 1. See more on our Attendance page.

Health Services

A Public Health Nurse (PHN) provides health Services to each school in the CBE. The PHN will work with teachers to provide health services and education to the school, but are not on call to attend to medical emergencies or provide first aid. If a child becomes ill or is injured during the school day, school staff members with first aid certification are asked to provide first aid and assess the extent of the injury. Sometimes a band-aid, ice pack and/or a rest are sufficient supports to allow the student to return to class. If students are presenting with more serious illnesses or an ongoing expressed state of discomfort, parents will be called to make arrangements for picking up the child. In situations where there is any doubt at all about the extent of the illness or injury, or if parents cannot be notified, an ambulance will be called to transport the student to a medical facility immediately.

Illness

If your child is ill, please keep them at home until they are well enough to participate in all school activities. If your child becomes ill during the school day, we will contact you and you will be asked to arrange for your child to be picked up as soon as possible.  The general guideline is to have your child stay home for 24 hours after having a fever and at least 24 hours after the last occurrence of vomiting/diarrhea.  At recess and lunch, all children are expected to go outside unless the weather is inclement.  We are not able to have children in the building unsupervised during these break periods.

Allergies

Please make sure that the office and your child’s teacher are informed of any allergies that may affect your child’s health and safety.

Please DO NOT send peanuts or peanut products to school with your child.

We would like you to be aware that we have a number of students in the school with severe allergies and would greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us to ensure the wellness of these students. We cannot legally guarantee a nut-free environment so we must remind both parents and students about the possibility of nuts causing severe allergic reactions in some people. We encourage all to be sensitive to this issue. Children are also reminded to eat only what they bring and not to share treats in case of allergies.
