Principal's Message

First Day of School

Hello Citadel Park School Families,
We are looking forward to seeing your children beginning tomorrow for students in Grades 1-4 . For our kindergarten students, some will start tomorrow and for others Friday will be their first day. Welcome everyone!
It has been a busy few days here at the school tracking students in and students out. As of today, we have 410 students registered at our school - 25 students over our projected enrolment! As a result, in the last three days, we have created a fourth grade 3 class as well as today, a fourth grade 4 class. Fortunately, we had prepared for these scenarios in the spring when establishing class lists. The number of new registrations has resulted in a continuous effort to review and revise class lists to ensure they are balanced. Changes may still be necessary and we ask everyone for their flexibility and understanding as we move through a very complex process. We cannot stress enough that while we hope to avoid any changes after the first day, movement may be necessary.
Students in grades 1-3 will be receiving an email from their child's teacher between 3:30 and 4 pm today. Students in grade 4 will need to meet at their meeting place (back compound) to be notified of their child's teacher. As the classes were created today, they do not populate in our Power School system until overnight which means teachers are unable to access their lists for emailing. Again, we thank you for your understanding.
Students in kindergarten will also be receiving a separate email this afternoon outlining information specific for these children and families.
It is going to be hot the next few days and we are currently experiencing air circulation challenges in some parts of the school due to problems with the air conditioning. Please dress your child in layers and be sure to have them bring a water bottle. Other items to bring include a lunch if they are staying at school as well as a pair of indoor shoes.
If your child is regularly riding the school bus home but will not do so Thursday or Friday this week, please email Citadel@cbe.ab.ca indicating your child's full name and bus letter if known. This will assist us greatly during our bus attendance process. Similarly, if you know your child will not be at school one or both days this week, please also email us at the above inbox. This is the best method of communication with the office as it is monitored and checked daily.
The bell times have now been updated on our school website. Our morning bell will ring at 8:58 am.
We look forward to our first day and a great school year ahead.
Sincerely,
The Admin Team
