Principal's Message

The Week Ahead - December 3

Good Afternoon Colonel Irvine School Community.
Hard to believe that today is the last day of trimester one. Students will get their new timetables and start in their new option classes on Monday morning in homeroom. Today we had our ‘biweekly’ Indigenous and Wellness lessons. Please ask your Grade 7-9 students about their favourite part of the video they watched in Wellness today. It was about overcoming adversity, so you can ask them what adversity they face and what strategies they have to overcome it. Grade 5/6 students had a Health lesson.
With the arrival of snow and cooler temperatures this week, we would like to remind you that the school doors do not open until 8:10am, and students are expected to go outside for the last 20 minutes of lunch every day. Please make sure that they have appropriate clothing for the weather. If we can be of assistance with winter clothing, please let us know.
Also, just a reminder that December 10th is now a regular school day. In the original CBE calendar for this year, it was scheduled as a Non-Instruction Day. This day was switched to September 30th  to observe National Truth and Reconciliation Day making December 10 a regular school day again.
The last day of our bookfair was Monday and the excitement students had when visiting was wonderful. Thank you to Ms. Woodhouse and her team of helpers for making this possible for our students.
A reminder that we will start collecting food for the annual Mayors Food Drive. We will collect non-perishable food donations starting on Monday and going until December 17th and appreciate anything you can donate. If you are in need of an emergency hamper please visit
Lastly, we’d like to ask you to remind your child(ren) about safety protocols for Covid-19. It is important for everyone to wear masks appropriately and to practice physical distancing whenever possible. Together, we can continue to keep each other and our school environment as safe as possible.
Thank you for your continued support.
Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood

School Council and Parent Associations Update:
Opportunity: Staff Appreciation - Monthly Treat Days - first one Friday Dec. 17th!
We would like to thank our tireless Irvine Teachers and Admin staff by providing treats and snacks once a month for the duration of the year.  For December, they can take treats home with them for the holidays!  Please sign up here:
MOTION: Staff Appreciation - Holiday Lunch
Background: This is a line item on Colonel Irving Parent Advisory Association (CIPAA) annual planning budget, but has not yet been voted on for the 2021-22 school year.  Given Covid restrictions, CIPAA would like to support the school administration in organizing individually portioned lunches for a holiday staff appreciation event for all the teachers and staff.  This would minimize food handling and is the best option in the current situation.  Based on the 2020-21 YE staff appreciation lunch, it is anticipated that the cost will be ~$20 per person. The school has confirmed that there are 60 staff members.  Funding for this event comes from the General account, and will first use up the excess funds that were collected for the 2020-21 YE lunch.
Motion:  Approve up to $1,200 to sponsor Holiday staff appreciation lunch (we will collect donations to support this request, and the CIPAA account will cover the amount that is outstanding).
If approved, the lunch will be held on Dec. 10th.
