Visitors & Volunteer Sign-In

All doors, except the front doors, will be locked during school hours. All visitors are required to sign-in at the office upon arrival.

Emergency Procedures

All schools within the CBE are required to have protocols in place in the event of an emergency. It is expected that school regularly hold fire drills and practice lock-downs and evacuations so that staff and students will be prepared to respond appropriately during a crisis. When and evacuation is necessary, due to severe weather conditions, utility disruption, fire or civil disturbance, a telephone fan-out system for contacting each parent will be implemented. Students whose parents cannot be reached will be supervised by the school personnel until an emergency contact person can be located and come to the school to take the child home.

Supervision

Please note that teacher supervision times are 15 minutes before and after school (8:15 AM to 3:15 PM). All students who are not directly under the supervision of a teacher should leave the school by 3:30 PM at the very latest.

Supervision is provided in the morning, during health break and at lunch. Lunchroom staff provides supervision for those students in Grades 5 - 6 who access noon hour supervision services. Supervising staff are also in place in the Gathering Area for those students in Grades 7 - 9 who remain at the school during the lunch hour. All students are required to exit the building after school unless in a school sponsored activity, sport, club, etc. There is no supervision after school and parents are responsible to supervise their children if they stay at the playground or school grounds.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
