Attendance

Attendance Line: 403-777-7280 then press "1"

Regular attendance and punctuality are required of all students by CBE Policy. Please call in all absences and lates daily before 8:00 AM to help us ensure your child’s attendance. Please leave a message on the attendance line. Our phone number is 403-777-7280 – press “1”. Our School Messenger will automatically contact the home of students who are absent or late without notification. These calls happen between 6 and 9 pm. Our school will contact the home of grades 5 and 6 students, who are absent without notification, immediately. Please remember to clearly spell your child’s full name and give the homeroom number.

Teachers will follow up on noticeable absenteeism, while chronic absenteeism or lates will be followed up by the teacher or school administration. Referrals will be made to the CBE’s Attendance Officer, if appropriate.

Lates

Students who arrive late must report to the office for a late slip before going to class, otherwise a phone call home may be made to report the student absent. Late slips are given to the teacher. Teachers do not accept students who are late unless they have a late slip. Students who miss class because they are late or absent need to contact  their teachers to review expectations for missed work or assignments.

Students who have an appointment or have to leave school before regular dismissal time must sign out at the office. Permission to be excused from school can only be granted by the office upon request by a parent or guardian. Under no circumstances shall a student leave the school grounds during instructional hours without first obtaining permission from the office. Students in Grades 5 - 6 are not permitted to leave the school grounds at any time except with parent permission. Students in Grades 7 - 9 may only leave the campus during the lunch hour.

Extended Absences

Extended Absences may occur due to family holidays or other events. In the case of an extended absence, parents need to notify the teacher and office with reasonable warning. Teachers are not responsible for assigning homework and catching up is the student’s responsibility. Extended absences, if not for medical reasons, are considered as unexcused absences in a student’s record.

Attendance Expectations at the CBE

We believe there is a strong correlation between attendance and effective education. The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students regulation applies to all of our students, and outlines the responsibilities for students, parents and school staff.
