One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

Our School Council & Parent Societies

Members of Colonel Irvine School Council (CISC) and the Colonel Irvine Parent Advisory Association (CIPAA) are parents/guardians of Colonel Irvine students just like you! In fact, all Irvine parents/guardians are automatically members of these parent organizations. We invite you to join us to share your views in support of our mission, purpose, and objectives.

Colonel Irvine Parent Society

Objectives:

  • To aid in the service and education activities of Colonel Irvine School;
  • To provide a channel of communication between those employees of the Calgary Board of Education at Colonel Irvine School and the Parent Advisory Association on matters of mutual interest.

Colonel Irvine Band Parent Association (CIBPA)

Not all Colonel Irvine students participate in the Band Program so as a result, there is a separate parent/guardian volunteer group that fundraises specifically for Irvine Band Program activities. Learn more about what they do on our CIBPA page.

Friends of Colonel Irvine School (FCIS)

This group is focused on fundraising for the school’s educational field trips such as the Beijing and West Coast Sailing Trips.

Meeting Schedule

Our meetings are usually held the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM.  For the 2022/23 school year, meetings are being held virtually to adhere to public health guidelines due to COVID-19.  We are using Microsoft Teams, the CBE’s standard tool for online meetings. Both CISC & CIPAA meetings are held on the same date and follow one after each other. All parents/guardians of Irvine students are very welcome to attend!
