Learning Commons / Library

We're Rebuilding!

We are currently in the process of rebuilding our Learning Commons to transform it into a more child-centered place that promotes more student independence both within the physical space and the virtual space.

Our new Learning Commons will have comfortable zones for students to sit, relax, read and work independently. As well, we have lots of Maker and Design-Thinking tools for students to build, design and create, and we have just updated our collection with thousands of dollars worth of new texts. We look forward to sharing them with everyone. Please watch for our Big Reveal in the coming months!

Learning Commons Grant Aids Transformation

We are excited to announce that our school has been fortunate to receive a new grant to further transform our Library into a Learning Commons space. This year we received a grant for $15,000 to spend on maker supplies. With these funds we were able to increase our compliment of iPad devices and purchased a great deal of “consumables,” like Lego Simple Machine Kits, and Little Bits electronics.

The new grant will be for $35,000 and we will use it to further develop the maker kits, as well as fund a physical and educational transformation of the Learning Commons to reflect the following areas of our School Development Fund:

  • Mathematical thinking
  • Reading
  • Perseverance and Well-Being

We are looking forward to using this grant to deepen student learning and helping to make our amazing Learning Commons into the center of all learning at CJFS.
