Good morning Colonel Macleod,
For the past two years, I have considered myself fortunate to serve as the Assistant Principal of Colonel Macleod School. I am incredibly pleased to share with you today that at the start of the 2023/24 school year, I will move into the role of Principal.
Before joining Colonel Macleod, I taught at McKenzie Highlands in Grade 7 and 8 English Language Arts and Social Studies, and led work in Well-Being. Prior to this, I worked as a system Specialist in Inclusive Education, leading work in trauma-informed practice, Mental Health Literacy, and the CBE's response to bullying. I started my career at Central Memorial, then Forest Lawn High School, in the areas of Social Studies, English Language Arts, CTS, Credit Recovery, The Class Program and as a Learning Coach. When I am not at work, I spend as much time as I am able with my wonderful wife and three sons, camping, skiing, hiking, playing hockey and baseball, and generally getting outside whenever possible.
In my two years at Colonel Macleod we have seen a great deal of positive change. We have worked to rebuild our school community from the wide-ranging impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have started exciting work in Indigenous Education, and reconciliation with Indigenous communities. We have learned and developed shared practice in key areas related to Literacy, Mathematics and Well-Being. Our students continue to amaze us with their capacity grow, and develop the skills and capacities that enable them to be compassionate, positive, contributing members of our society.
I am proud of our school, and the work we have done to get to where we are right now. I am incredibly excited for the possibilities the future holds as we enter another year together.
Sincerely,
Stephen Becker
