Attendance

Attendance Line: 403-777-6034 ext. 1.

Every day your child will be absent or late, we do expect a call to the office before 9 am on our 24-hour absence line included above. You may call anytime of the day or night to leave a message, whenever it is most convenient for you.

Absences

Please continue to call in any absences to the school. Accurate attendance is needed, please provide a reason for your child's absence (ex: medical appointment, ill or parent concerns regarding COVID).Without a reason, the absence is marked unexcused. It is important that we know why your student is not attending school and this information is in MyCBE accurately.

Please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather (including snow pants), as this supports a productive play during recess

Arriving on Time - 2023-2024

Our school day begins at 9:10am, which means that students need to be seated and ready to learn at this time. If they are not seated and ready to learn, they are missing valuable instructional time. For this reason, we are modifying our grade level door time.

Soft entry time will be from 8:55-9:05am, teachers will be at grade level doors welcoming students into the school.  At 9:05 am grade level doors will close. Starting at 9:05am students will need to enter the school using the main door near the garden.  From 9:05-9:10 am we will be singing O Canada and listening to announcements, to allow for a 9:10am start time.

Please adjust your family schedule to arrive to school between 8:55am and 9:05am. For bus families, buses have been requested to arrive at the school for 8:55am.

Important Information Regarding Attendance for TLC Students

As per section 7 (I) of the Education Act, it is mandatory for all students between the ages of 6 and 16 to attend school regularly and it is the parent(s)/guardian’s legal responsibility to ensure this happens.

TLC students MUST attend school for the first three days of school. If a student does not attend for the first three days, they will be withdrawn from the TLC program and replaced with someone on the callback list.

For example: If your student attends the first day, then is absent on the second day, they will be withdrawn from the TLC program and replaced with someone who is able to attend on a regular basis.

TLC students MUST attend school for a minimum of 70% of the month of September. If a student attends for less than 70% the student will be withdrawn from the TLC program. At times, depending on the reason for the absences, an Attendance Improvement Plan will be created to increase attendance.

If you are planning on traveling during the school year, a conversation must occur. The conversation needs to be with the Principal and/or the Assistant Principal. An email to the school is not considered a conversation; a conversation is a scheduled in-person meeting, a scheduled Microsoft Teams meeting, or a scheduled telephone conversation.

Please note:  if you are travelling for longer than 1 month at one time, you MUST cancel your transportation fees for that month prior to your departure.  Please email cbetransportationservices@cbe.ab.ca or log into your MyCBE account to cancel your transportation for the months that you are away.

Attendance Expectations at the CBE

We believe there is a strong correlation between attendance and effective education. The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students regulation applies to all of our students, and outlines the responsibilities for students, parents and school staff.
