Busing

Transportation Issues

We are aware of the bus concerns that have impacted Colonel Sanders' students and families.  Please know that as a school we:

  • Check https://firststudentcalgary.busstatus.ca/#_ each day, to check the status of our buses
  • Prior to 8:55am, make in school announcements to inform staff about late buses
  • Supervise the busing area between 8:55am and 9:08am
  • After 9:08am, use the walkie talkie to announce which buses have not yet arrived
  • Have school staff wait outside if the bus will be arriving shortly
  • Have school staff wait inside if the bus has a significant delay
    • connect with First Student to verify that a driver has started the run
    • connect with First Student to ask if any students are physically on a bus that has not yet arrived at the school
  • Make an announcement inside the school prior to the end of the day to let students and staff know which bus has a posted delay and where to wait
  • Supervise students at the end of the day to ensure that students are safe while waiting for the bus
  • Connect with First Student via telephone to ask about buses which families have told us have not yet arrived to stops, yet the first student website shows that the bus is on time
  • Connect with CBE transportation regarding late buses (morning or after school)
  • Connect with CBE transportation regarding information bus drivers have provided the school
  • Connect with CBE transportation regarding information which Colonel Sanders Families have provided the school
  • Request Colonel Sanders families to connect with First Student regarding busing issues on their side

Thank you for working with us on the transportations concerns we are having!

Bused Students

All students taking the bus proceed directly to their designated line-up location, line up in alphabetical order, and board the bus as the teacher takes attendance. Unless the office is given notice in the child’s agenda notebook or by phone prior to 3:00 pm, the student will be required to board the bus. It is a regulation that all students must be waiting at their bus stop 5 minutes before the designated departure time. Buses can then depart quickly and proceed directly to Thorncliffe School to pick up the TLC Kindergarten students at our sister school.

Keeping Track of Your Yellow School Bus

We show respect by being punctual and responsible. However, if buses are late, it is out of our control. To keep track of your student's bus, use the following link to www.myschoolbusmonitor.ca. There is also a new new bus route monitoring app being phased in, called MyBusStop. It uses a GPS tracking service to provide real-time information such as the route stops, route schedule, route progress and possible route delays for your child's yellow school bus.

  • To register you will need your school code and your child's bus route.
  • Visit www.mybusstop.ca to register and create an account, follow the prompts and select the bus route you want to track
  • Learn more by reading our Parent Brochure and FAQs
  • Questions, concerns or suggestions regarding registration or use of the application can be forwarded to admin@mybusstop.ca.

Bus Pass Information

Bus passes from last year can be reused this year. If your child is new to transportation, a bus pass will be coming in the next few weeks. If your child has lost or misplaced their bus pass, please follow the below instructions. Log into MyCBE > select service fees and registrations at bottom > select student name at the top > select transportation forms 2022-2023> select bus pass replacement.

Getting Students to School

You can register your child for yellow school bus transportation online using your MyCBE or by completing a transportation registration form. Register every school year.

Please visit the CBE website to find more information on fees and service levels for the 2023-24 school year.

To be included in the yellow school bus route planning for September, parents must register by the June 11, 2023 deadline. The more registrations we receive by the deadline, the more efficient route planning will be for September. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline, and students are added to the closest existing stop with space, within the distance guideline. Processing times could be up to 6 weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

Yellow school bus registrations can be cancelled by Sept. 30 with no financial penalty. Cancellation forms must be completed before a pro-rated refund can be considered. No refunds will be processed for service cancelled after April 30 or for individual trip delays.

Bus Status

Parents/guardians can view the bus status online:

We are aware of the communication challenges the providers are having keeping route information up-to-date for families. At this time, all service provider staff are dedicated to driving buses and they are not always able to accommodate this service.

Visit CBE Transportation for forms and more information.

Conditional Riders

Students who are not attending the designated school for their program, or who are not within the transportation service area, may be able to access existing service if there is a suitable stop on the existing bus route. Fees will not be waived for conditional riders.

Criteria for conditional riders:

  • Must access an existing stop
  • Must be room on the bus
  • Must pay the transportation fee
  • No additional bus routes will be implemented to accommodate conditional riders
  • Must wait for written approval from Transportation Services before starting to ride the bus

Conditional riders are not permitted to ride the bus until it is determined there is space on the bus and riders have been approved by Transportation Services.

Alternate Addresses

We've heard from families that they would like more flexibility to access bus stops and routes to support childcare arrangements and changing family schedules. This year, CBE Transportation will allow families to add a second address to their transportation registration to have access to two bus stops and/or routes.

Note | All addresses must be within the attendance area for the school and outside the walk zone. Maps can be found on the school profile on the CBE website. The information collected from parents informs bus route planning, but does not guarantee a stop at the exact location requested.

To participate in the program, you must:

  • Pre-register for transportation in MyCBE by the June 11, 2023 deadline.
  • Fill in the Request for Alternate Address form in MyCBE and provide one additional address and schedule for your child. Note: the form will only appear after you register.

CBE Transportation will review each request to determine if the request can be accommodated. Families will be notified of the decision within six weeks of application. If it is approved, the second address will be used as we are creating new bus routes.

The cost of this request, if approved, is $110.
