Leaving the School

Students are expected to be in the school building during class time and on the school grounds during recess and lunch times. Under no circumstances is a student to leave the school during class time without permission. If parents wish their children to be picked up by someone other than parents/guardians, the school needs written permission before the student will be released to that person. Students who miss the bus will be at the school until parents provide transportation home. Kindergarten students who are not met by a parent at the bus stop will be returned to the school and parents will provide transportation. Students who are not able to access their homes at bus drop off will be returned to the school or dropped off at the nearest police station. Parents are asked to sign in or out children who arrive late or leave early.

Change of Personal and Health Information

Parents are requested to notify the school secretary of any and all changes to telephone numbers and/or addresses during the school year. This ensures all students’ records are kept current and enables the school to easily contact parents in the event of any emergency. The same is expected if any changes are noted in a student’s health.

Volunteers/Visitors to Our School

To provide a safe and secure environment for our students, we request adults entering the school to abide by the following rules and regulations:

  • Volunteers report to the office, sign in and pick up identification.
  • Occasional visitors will check in with office staff and pick up a visitor’s identification.
  • For safety, the east and west doors are locked. Visitors are requested to use the main entrance facing 12 Ave. after 8:15 AM.
  •  All volunteers must complete a Security Clearance prior to working with students.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
