Getting Students to School

You can register your child for yellow school bus transportation online using your MyCBE or by completing a transportation registration form. Register every school year.

Please visit the CBE website to find more information on fees and service levels for the 2022-23 school year.

To be included in the yellow school bus route planning for September, parents must register by the June 8, 2022 deadline. The more registrations we receive by the deadline, the more efficient route planning will be for September. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline, and students are added to the closest existing stop with space, within the distance guideline. Processing times could be up to 6 weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

Yellow school bus registrations can be cancelled by Sept. 30 with no financial penalty. Cancellation forms must be completed before a pro-rated refund can be considered. No refunds will be processed for service cancelled after April 30 or for individual trip delays.

Bus Status

Parents/guardians can view the bus status online:

We are aware of the communication challenges the providers are having keeping route information up-to-date for families. At this time, all service provider staff are dedicated to driving buses and they are not always able to accommodate this service.

Visit CBE Transportation for forms and more information.

Conditional Riders

Students who are not attending the designated school for their program, or who are not within the transportation service area, may be able to access existing service if there is a suitable stop on the existing bus route. Fees will not be waived for conditional riders.

Criteria for conditional riders:

  • Must access an existing stop
  • Must be room on the bus
  • Must pay the transportation fee
  • No additional bus routes will be implemented to accommodate conditional riders
  • Must wait for written approval from Transportation Services before starting to ride the bus

Conditional riders are not permitted to ride the bus until it is determined there is space on the bus and riders have been approved by Transportation Services.

Alternate Addresses

We've heard from families that they would like more flexibility to access bus stops and routes to support childcare arrangements and changing family schedules. This year, CBE Transportation will allow families to add a second address to their transportation registration to have access to two bus stops and/or routes.

Note | All addresses must be within the attendance area for the school and outside the walk zone. Maps can be found on the school profile on the CBE website. The information collected from parents informs bus route planning, but does not guarantee a stop at the exact location requested.

To participate in the program, you must:

  • Pre-register for transportation in MyCBE by the June 8, 2022 deadline.
  • Fill in the Request for Alternate Address form in MyCBE and provide one additional address and schedule for your child. Note: the form will only appear after you register.

CBE Transportation will review each request to determine if the request can be accommodated. Families will be notified of the decision within six weeks of application. If it is approved, the second address will be used as we are creating new bus routes.

The cost of this request, if approved, is $110.

Busing

Bus Maps & Schedules

Bus route maps will be available at the CBE Busing & Transportation page. Click here to find your child’s yellow school bus route map. Maps are organized by school name and route letter. Schools that have more than five buses (not including kindergarten) will also have an overview document to help parents identify their child's route map by its letter (Route A etc.).

New information on the bus maps include:

  • The afternoon schedule is provided in addition to the morning schedule. The afternoon drop-off stop may be slightly different than the morning pick-up stop due to traffic patterns, for example across the street from the morning stop.
  • Early or late entry days are shown as a “variation.”
  • The number of registered riders shown on your map may change as parents continue to register their students, or students choose to access an existing stop other than the one assigned to them.

Parents should also be aware of the following:

  • Parents are responsible for ensuring their child's safety while traveling from home to and from, and at the bus stop.
  • School bus routes were developed using all pre-registrations that were submitted in June.
  • Changes to routes will not be made until after Thanksgiving unless they are necessary. e.g. road closures
  • If a student has more than one address, only the primary residence address will be used for transportation purposes. The CBE cannot provide two or more bus stops for one child; however, students are allowed to use any existing bus stop that is convenient for them as long as they have registered and paid for transportation.
  • Parents/guardians can complete a Bus Stop Change Request form. The circumstances under which a stop will be reviewed are outlined on the form.
  • Bus routes or schedules are subject to change at any time during the school year.

Alternate Ride Arrangements

Students who normally take the yellow school bus home at the end of the day will need written permission from their guardian when not taking the school bus home. Students will not be permitted to stay behind to wait for a ride home without this written permission.

Rules & Regulations when Riding the School Bus

  • Riding the school bus is a privilege that can be revoked due to misbehaviour.
  • The bus driver is responsible for all students on the bus. Students are expected to comply with driver expectations and to comply with school bus rules at all times.
  • The driver will report unacceptable behaviour to the school principal.
  • The driver may assign specific seats to students at any time.
  • While the bus is in motion, students must not extend their arms or head out of the window, try to get on or off the bus, or move about before the bus comes to a full stop.
  • Students must not throw paper or other waste materials on the floor or out of the windows of the bus.
  • While on the bus, students must conduct themselves in a quiet and courteous manner, showing consideration for the comfort and safety of others.
  • Scuffling, fighting, and using obscene language on the bus are prohibited.
  • Students must not distract the bus driver with portable radios, electronics, or unnecessary conversations.
  • Students causing willful damage to a bus will be held fully accountable.
  • When leaving the bus, students must follow the instructions of the driver. They should not cross the road without having a clear view in both directions.
  • Misbehaviour could lead to a child being suspended from riding the bus.
