Welcome back! Classes are underway and it is really nice to have all the kids back in the building; the school felt very empty without all of our students. All of us are very hopeful that case numbers throughout the province will continue to come down and things can open up again. We continue to maintain class cohorts, follow safety guidelines for movement in the building, and regular disinfecting routines are still occurring throughout the day. We will continue to send out notices when we are made aware of positive cases but have our fingers crossed they will become less and less frequent.
We are looking forward to welcoming back a number of students who are returning to in-person classes from the Hub Learning program on February 1. We are excited to have them join their peers in classes and the teachers are very eager to see them in the classroom. It is important to remind everyone that the movement between Hub and in-person is only one-way, back into the school.
I know many of us are all feeling frustrated and tired of the restrictions placed on us in almost every area of society but recognize we need to keep following guidelines to protect each other. We have noticed a recent increase in students using entrances and exits other than the assigned one for their group. Please remind your kids of the need to follow the instructions and regulations we are under as a school, one of the primary purposes of limiting movement and assigned entrances is to ensure cleaning crews can disinfect areas when we have positive cases. When students are using different entrances, going into other hallways and bathrooms we lose track of spaces for deep cleaning and that can potentially cause more problems in the building.
The high school engagement process is still underway and I would urge you to take the opportunity to review the initial plans that will be shared online later this month. There will be opportunities to provide feedback, make suggestions and increase your understanding of the changes being made to the process. All of our current students will be impacted by the changes when they are implemented in the 2022-23 school year. Information about the changes can be found on the CBE Engagement Website
We have been notified by Alberta Health Services that the regular vaccination program has been postponed for January and February. The nursing team that provides school vaccinations has been redeployed to support the response to COVID-19. We will let parents know when the schedule resumes and provide new dates at that time.
Report cards will be online again this year, we have been informed the date for our school's report cards being made available is February 5. We will send out reminders closer to that date.
Take care,
Ross
