Math is more than memorizing formulas and doing calculations. Math involves:
- Highly practical and hands-on problems and skills
- Rich problem-solving activities in collaboration with your peers
- Some problems that will stretch your understanding to the abstract and theoretical
- Using technology to develop, demonstrate and communicate your mathematical understandings
Math Advanced Placement (AP)
To give them the best opportunity for success on the Advanced Placement Calculus AB Exam, students have the opportunity to enrich their mathematics’ education through Math 10‐C Pre‐AP, and Math 20‐1 Pre‐AP,. The AP Calculus 30‐1/31 course provides students with an excellent platform for success in their Math 30‐1 course, diploma exam, the calculus course, and their AP exam. The course is arranged over the full year to allow students time to explore concepts thematically rather than a linear approach of studying math 30‐1 concepts, then Calculus. Concepts are taught graphically, numerically, algebraically and verbally. With successful scores on the AP exam, students may be granted transfer credits to various post‐secondary institutions.
"Math is the key to every door for me in university. The AP program offered me a great challenge of university material while I was still in high school." - Sumeet G.
Math 10T
This course has been created by the Crescent Heights math department to provide students transitioning into grade 10 the opportunity to recognize their current strengths and areas for growth in the grade 10 math curriculum. Students will be continuously assessed to determine their learning progress and possible next steps for mastery of curricular outcomes. The learning will be guided by the Math 10-C Program of Study.
This course is ideal for students who have mastered a majority of the concepts of the Grade Nine Mathematics Program of Studies but have found specific learning outcomes of mathematics challenging and as a result have gaps in their mathematical knowledge.
This course will run year-long to allow students the opportunity to process and understand the material covered over a longer span of time. Additionally, students will be enrolled and complete CALM and Learning Strategies. Students will discuss tools and tricks for test-taking, school anxiety and receive support for other classes.
