Personal Belongings

Care of Personal Property

The school is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal property. Students are advised to leave items of value at home and not share their locker combinations.

Backpacks

To ease congestion, and for safety reasons, students are not allowed to carry backpacks to their classes. Backpacks need to be left in lockers during the school day. Students are never to leave backpacks, textbooks, binders, etc. on hallway floors as they cause a tripping hazard, are easily damaged, often create a mess, and impede our caretakers’ ability to clean the floors.

Physical Education Clothing

With a large number of students sharing two locker rooms and having identical gym strip, it is hard to tell things apart, and difficult not to mix things up. We strongly suggest you label the outside of your t-shirt and shorts (on the crest provided),  not on the inside tags, as they are easy to cut off.

Lost & Found

Students are advised to check in the office for any items that may have been turned in. Items not claimed by the end of the school year will be donated.

Personal Electronic Devices

Our school has a Digital Citizenship plan and an Acceptable Use Policy that addresses the appropriate use of electronic devices at school.

Cell Phones and Personal Devices

Cell phones and other personal devices are not to be used for any reason during instructional hours unless permission is given by a teacher or other staff member. If they cause disruptions in the classroom, they may be confiscated for the duration of the class or, depending on the circumstance, the student may be referred to administration and the phone may be returned only to a parent.

Photography

In order to respect the privacy of students and staff, and in accordance with CBE Administrative Regulations, cameras may only be used during the school day if required for a classroom project and with teacher permission. For any other reason, permission must be granted by school administration and consents obtained where necessary.

Bicycles

We certainly encourage active living practices with children such as riding a bicycle to school. Upon arrival at the school and for the safety of all students, cyclists are expected to walk bicycles on school grounds during school hours. When bicycles are brought to school they should be locked in the bicycle rack provided. The school cannot be responsible for bicycles damaged or stolen while they are at school.

Food in Classrooms

Food and beverages should not to be taken into classrooms due to potentially severe allergic reactions as well as the mess they can cause. Students may bring bottled water into class. Chewing gum is not permitted in the school because of the choking concern in PE or other classes where students are active and the mess and hygiene issues it creates when left stuck to desks and chairs.
