One way parents/guardians can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on our school’s parent society. Parent societies are a formal group of parents, incorporated under the Societies Act for the purpose of raising funds for the school. A society is a separate legal entity from the school council. More information can be found in our CBE Administrative Regulation 5001 – School Councils and School/Parent Societies.

Parent Society

Fundraising Priority

Our Parent Society works in partnership with School Council, school staff, and students to identify ways to support and enhance learning experiences at David Thompson School. Some of our recent fundraising has focused on making improvements like:

  • Creating collaborative spaces in the Learning Commons
  • Updating technology in classrooms
  • Improving performing arts spaces

Outdoor Indigenous Learning Space - Donations

David Thompson School would like to design and install an outdoor Indigenous learning space. The garden will be a place of gathering for students, staff, and community members to come together, learn about Indigenous plants and traditions, reflect, and relax. This area will be designed as a circle to promote sharing.

The garden will be used as part of regular school and extra-curricular programming. The final design will be done in consultation with students, teachers, local Elders, parents and other community members, and Calgary Board of Education’s Indigenous Education department and facilities team.

We hope to have the Indigenous Garden ready for use by September 2023.
