“Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened.”
~Dr. Seuss~
Dear Families of Deer Run School,
The end of the school year always brings with it a myriad of emotions. While we are happy for the much-needed break, we are sad to know that there some people that we will have to say good- bye to. We would like to thank all of the grade 6 parents who worked together to create a beautiful “Grade 6 Farewell”. It was wonderful to be able to come together, in person, for the first time in over two years. To our grade 6 students, we wish you all the best and know that you are more than ready for junior high.
As we transition to the end of the school year, we have many staff members that we will also be saying “see you soon” to. Mr. Davis and Mrs. Richardson are off to experience all adventures that come with being retired. Ms. Lillis, Ms. Cottrell and Mrs. Walker have all decided to step away from the CBE for a year. All of these teachers are long time pillars of the Deer Run School community. We know that their absences will be felt for a long time. While we are happy to share that Mr. Steinke has secured a probationary contract for the fall, we are sad to say that he will no longer grace the halls of Deer Run School. Mr. Steinke will be teaching at Cambrian Heights, beginning in September. Mrs. Haggard, Mrs. Anderson and Ms. Corrie, were all on temporary contract until the end of June. We wish them all well and hope to have them back at Deer Run next year!
We have had a wonderful year at Deer Run School, despite the many challenges that we still faced with the pandemic. We were curious, we were lively and we were engaged in learning. Students did not complain about the health measures put in place and joy was a regular emotion experienced by all. For this, we are grateful.
We would like to wish you all a relaxing, but adventured filled summer! We look forward to meeting in September to hear about your experiences and to learn about your new discoveries.
Sincerely,
Shawna Weir, Principal
