2020-21 Plans for Discovering Choices

May 6, 2020

Discovering Choices Students, Parents and Staff,

As you may know, the CBE currently operates the Discovering Choices outreach program out of four locations within the city: Bowness, Downtown, Marlborough and Westbrook. Due to budget reductions for the 2020-21 school year, the CBE will not be able to operate at all four locations for the coming school year.

We will be terminating our lease and closing the Bowness location effective June 30, 2020. The Bowness site has the lowest student enrolment and the highest facility lease costs to operate.

The CBE remains committed to providing outreach programming and the unique opportunities it provides for students to be successful outside of regular school programs and services. We will have space for all Discovering Choices students to continue in 2020-21 school year.  A transition plan is being developed with school administration to accommodate the current Bowness students at the existing outreach locations.  We will share more information about this transition plan when it is available.

Work is currently underway to attempt to secure an expanded lease space in Marlborough effective January 2021, which will replace the current space in Marlborough Mall and will provide upgraded space for students and staff in the New Year.

In the meantime, please share any questions you have or thoughts you’d like to share about the transition through this short survey. This survey will remain open until May 20, and we will share responses to frequently asked questions by May 27. It is also posted on the Discovering Choices website.

We understand that this change may be challenging for some families. We are committed to working closely with you to support students through this transition.
