Dear Scarlett Families,

A very warm Happy New Year to you and your families!

Let me begin by extending my deepest gratitude for all you have done to support your student in their learning and well-being over the past year.  Whether it be the restrictions of Covid-19, the Hub, on-line, or in person learning, students, staff and families have met these challenges while continuing to learn and grow together.  One thing for certain, we are stronger together!

As you are aware on January 07th, 2021, Premier Kenney announced that all students will return to in-person learning beginning Monday, January 11th.  We are looking forward to  students return; we missed seeing their interactions with teachers and each other, navigating the hallways, labs and classrooms and hearing their chatter and laughter.  Students will be pleased to see some new updates and enhancements that have been made to the school during their absence; one in particular are the new outdoor tables and benches at the front of the school. Thank you school council for your continual generosity and support!

As students begin to prepare themselves for the closure of semester 1, attendance in classes and writing final exams will be critical.  The altered January schedule allows students the opportunity to catch up on missed assignments, participate in reviews for final exams, focus on enrichment for the next level of learning, and most importantly, to develop and sharpen their exam taking skills.  The skillset of exam writing is critical as students are in or approaching their grade 12 graduation requirements.

Covid-19 restrictions as outlined by AHS continue to be in place for our safety and the safety of our community.  Families are reminded to keep students home who are showing any symptoms and/or are required to quarantine to comply with international travel requirements.  As well, we request you inform the school if your student has tested positive for COVID-19.  Please know that Dr. E. P. Scarlett High School is doing its best to continue to provide students with a safe, caring and productive learning environment.

Have a restful weekend.  Stay safe, stay well, and we will see students, our amazing Lancers, back in school on January 11, 2021 for in-person learning.

I want to thank you for working with us through the new format of parent-teacher conferences.  It certainly wasn’t our preference to do them by phone but hopefully they still offered a meaningful conversation regarding your student’s learning.  If we missed you or there was some error, please don’t worry.  Teachers will be contacting families next week to follow up with anyone that was missed and would like to have a meeting.  And, as always, you are welcomed to contact your student’s teacher at any time during the course regarding their learning.

Last week, I slipped and broke a couple of bones in my foot, so I have been at home following doctors’ orders, stay off the foot!  I am working from home, so if you would like to contact me, please do, my email address is slgoodfellow@cbe.ab.ca . Andre Marquis Assistant Principal is acting Principal in my place, Mrs. Natalie McLeod is replacing Mr. Marquis and working with his part of the alphabet, and a temporary teacher, Michael Wenkoff is picking up Mrs. McLeod’s classes during this time.

Thank you again for your support and working with your student in following the COVID guidelines provided to us by Alberta Health.  I continue to assure you we take the concern very seriously and follow the guidelines as closely as possible.  Our students have been wonderful as well doing their best following the guidelines when they are outside of the school.  It is so important that they maintain distance, wear their mask, do not share food with each other, and keep their hands clean.  It has been difficult and we will continue the good work together.

Happy Halloween. Shari

Happy Thanksgiving
I hope this message finds you well. I want to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a happy thanksgiving and to share my gratitude and appreciation for all of your support through our school start up this year.

Even in these unusual and unprecedented times I find there are things to be grateful for. I know I am truly grateful that all of our students and staff that were quarantined last week due to being in close contact with a student that tested positive for COVID-19, have remained COVID free and able to return back to school on Tuesday. We missed you and look forward to seeing you back!

I am also grateful for the hard work and support of our students and staff in being extra vigilant and attentive to the Alberta Health Services (AHS) guidelines that keep themselves and others in our school safe. It is so wonderful to have our school community back in the building and working together. Your efforts continue to make this possible.

Thank you parents and guardians for your on-going support and for working with your students around safety protocols when students are out and about at lunch times, after school and weekends. It has often been said, “it takes a village to raise a child”.

We have such a wonderful community that I feel very thankful to be a part of. On behalf of all the staff of Dr. E. P. Scarlet High School we wish you a safe and joyous Thanksgiving.

Welcome to the 2020-21 School Year

On behalf of the staff of Dr. E. P. Scarlett High School, we wish to extend our warmest welcome to all students attending the 2020-21 school year. It is our hope that your years at Dr. E. P. Scarlett High School are positive ones; and that together we can create a ‘Lancer’ community where all students feel welcomed.

Your personal future will be affected by the decisions that you make-- your past school marks, the requirements for a high school diploma, your conduct and attitude, and the requirements for the programs you wish to pursue beyond high school, all contribute to your success. Your parents, counsellor and teachers can assist you in making the best choices.

Dr. E. P. Scarlett High School welcomes you as a member of our family!  We hope that you will always be inspired by the history and traditions of our great school!
