New to the CBE

Registration Process During a Health Emergency

To register new students during the COVID-19 pandemic follow the steps outlined in Registration on the Calgary Board of Education website. Look on the Kindergarten to Grade 9 or High School Registration pages.

During a health emergency when access to school buildings is being limited for everyone's safety, please follow the Registration instructions outlined on the CBE website.

Registration at Calgary Board of Education (CBE) schools is not determined on a first come, first served basis. Registration and admission to schools in CBE are governed by the Education Act and Administrative Regulation 6090 | Child and Student Registration and Admission.

General Registration Information

If you have questions for our school, contact us for information.

It is not possible to register at the school on holidays and during the summer. During the summer break you can find more information and dates on our Back to School page.

Non-Canadian students have a different registration process: please see our Non-Canadian Students page for details.

Transferring Between CBE Schools

At the CBE, when you are transitioning from elementary to middle school, or from middle school to high school, you will be automatically registered at your designated school according to your home address. To find out what your designated school is, use our Find a School tool.

If you are interested in attending a school other than your designated school, visit our Transferring Between CBE Schools page for transfer information. Please note that some schools are quite full and not able to accept all transfer requests.

How to Register for Alternative Programs

Alternative programs have a new registration process. Please visit CBE's Program Options page to read the process and explore each of our alternative programs.

Applications for the 2022-23 school year opens on January 17, 2022.

Registration Process

The timeline for registration is as follows:

  1. Feb. 15, 2022 | No later than noon, an Expression of Interest with proof of address is emailed to the designated alternative program school. Do NOT complete an online or paper registration form yet.
Note: Lottery draws for schools at capacity will take place the following day. Alternative program schools who are not in a lottery may extend these dates to continue to accept registrations. Contact us o find out our status.
  2. Feb. 25, 2022 | The school informs the parent / legal guardian whether there is space in the program for their child and whether they must complete the online or paper registration form.
  3. Mar. 11, 2022 | No later than this date, for those offered a space, the parent / legal guardian informs the school whether or not they will be accepting the offer.

Visit the Alternative Program Registration page for more details on the updated process.

For families that are new to CBE and not Canadian citizens, please note you must first attend the CBE Welcome Centre for an initial assessment prior to registering for an Alternative Program.
