Science 10 (5 Credits)
This academic course provides students with a unified view of the biological, chemical, physical and earth sciences and an awareness of the connections among them.
The four units of study covered are:
- Energy and Matter in Chemical Change
- Energy Flow in Technological Systems
- Cycling of Matter in Living Systems
- Energy Flow in Global Systems
Laboratory work will reinforce the theoretical concepts
Note: Science 10 is the prerequisite for all academic sciences. It is recommended that students obtain at least 65% or better in Science 10 to continue into academic sciences.
Science 20 (Note: This course is not offered at Dr. E.P. Scarlett)
This academic program is designed for the student who is interested in science but does not require specific courses in biology, chemistry, or physics for post-secondary education. This program integrates concepts related to physical, biological and Earth sciences
The four units of study covered are:
- Chemical Changes
- Changes in Motion
- The Changing Earth
- Changes in Living Systems
Laboratory work will reinforce the theoretical concepts
Science 30 (5 Credits)
This academic program is designed for the student who is interested in science but does not require specific courses in biology, chemistry or physics for post-secondary education. This program integrates concepts related to physical, biological and Earth sciences.
The four units of study covered are:
- Living Systems Respond to their Environment
- Chemistry and the Environment
- Electromagnetic Energy
- Energy and the Environment
Laboratory work will reinforce the theoretical concepts
Note: Completion of Science 30 requires the writing of a provincial diploma examination and this course is a prerequisite for many non-science based programs at post-secondary institutions.
