Note | Alberta Education directs the Grade 12 Diploma Examinations Program. You may have questions regarding this program for the remainder of the 2021- 22 school year, given that January Diploma Examinations were cancelled by the Minister of Education.

As of March 3, 2022, the Alberta Education Diploma exams webpage states:

  • Diploma exams are expected to be administered for the rest of the school year (April, June and August 2022). The situation will continue to be monitored and the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health will inform final decisions.
  • Due to learning disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the weighting of diploma exams will be temporarily reduced to 10% for the 2021-22 school year only.

For more information on each of these bullets, please refer to this webpage.

For the 2021-22 school year only, diploma exams will comprise 10 per cent of a student's overall mark in the course. Diploma exams are mandatory and will be offered for every diploma exam course listed below in November, January, April, June and August:

  • Biology 30
  • Chemistry 30
  • English Language Arts 30–1
  • English Language Arts 30–2
  • Français 30–1

  • Mathematics 30–1
  • Mathematics 30–2
  • Physics 30

If you have any questions, please contact your school.

Exam Schedule

Non-diploma Exams

Schools will ensure that all non-diploma course final assessment activities will be no-jeopardy, and weighted at no more than 10% of the total course mark.  Students’ final marks cannot be negatively impacted by the final assessment activity.  The rationale behind this request is to ensure consistency within and across our schools, as well as to align with practices followed during the January 2022 assessment period.

Advanced Placement (A.P.) Exam Registration

Senior level A.P. students have an opportunity to write a College Board exam in May. Please note that this message is for the families of students in Grades 11 and 12, who are taking exam level A.P. courses. Additionally, for clarification, the College Board is an organization from the United States that runs the A.P. program.

As directed by the College Board, there is an earlier exam registration deadline for Semester 1 & full year A.P. courses. In particular, students who are currently taking an exam level course, have until Thursday, October 29, to pay the fee and submit the registration form to the Business Office. (This is next Thursday!) Courses that run during the second semester (with the exception of our full year classes) will have a later deadline. The fee this year will be $150.00 CAD per exam. AP teachers recently distributed the exam registration forms in the relevant classes.

Reminder: Exam fees must be paid by Thursday, October 29. There will be a late fee applied to exam registrations & payment received after the deadline.

A.P. (College Board) Exam Accommodations

As mentioned above, students in senior level AP courses (not pre AP) will have an opportunity to write a College Board AP Exam this coming May.

Applying for accommodations is separate from what happens with Alberta Education and is quite a bit more difficult to get approval. Students are recommended to have recent psycho-educational assessments and demonstrate compelling reasons.

The application process for accommodations needs to begin well before the official final deadline. Any interested students must see Ms. Rip in room 120.
