Student Safety (Phone-In Policy)

Parents are reminded to phone our Attendance Line and leave your message on the school’s voicemail notifying the school if their child is going to be absent or late on any given day. If a child’s absence is unaccounted for the school will attempt to call you to determine the whereabouts of your child. The phone-in system is a precautionary measure that tries to ensure that each child arrives safely at school. Your co-operation with our phone-in policy is very much appreciated.

School Attendance and Lates

Regular school attendance and arriving on time is critical for successful learning. The Alberta School Act says that students between the ages of 6 and 16 must enroll and attend school regularly and punctually.

Students who arrive late should report to the office, complete a late slip, and take a ‘passport’ with them to give to their classroom teacher. Parents do not need to accompany their child to their classroom.  All lates and absences will be listed on the child’s report card.

Should a student’s attendance / lateness become a concern, the home and school will work together to find a solution.

Extended Absences Due to Trips

During the course of the school year, we sometimes have parents request to take their child on trips varying in length.  When trips occur, we suggest that parents check with the teacher in advance of the trip to gather information on what topics are being covered during the absence. Due to the collaborative nature of our hands on learning activities it is difficult to send work with you. We encourage keeping a travel journal during the trip. Students can share this journal with their classmates upon their return. Please provide the school office with a note or email when you are going for an extended vacation.
