Dear DGS Families, 
Somehow, it’s December, and this morning I just learned that the highest recorded December temperature in Calgary was 19.5 degrees Celsius on December 27 in 1999. Turns out we came close a few days in 2020 as well. While we aren’t quite there, it does feel a little bit like the forecast is invented and the seasons don’t matter. We’ve been taking advantage of this prairie gift to spend as much time outside with students as we possibly can. 
Thanks to all of you who have signed up for the DGS Parent Fundraising Society’s Casino at Deerfoot Inn and Casino this upcoming Saturday and Sunday. Through the generosity of our Parent Fundraising Society, we have been able to support the revamping of Exploratories like Environmental and Outdoor Education. Stay tuned to see all of the other programming changes coming to DGS! 
 
West Coast Sailing- Grade 9 SALTS Trip 
Application Packages for the Spring 2024 trip are now available from Mr. Buist’s classroom. The deadline to return packages to his classroom is the end of the day on Monday December 11. All applicants will be notified of their trip status (accepted or waitlisted) on Tuesday December 12.  
Deposit requests will be added to your MyCBE accounts by December 14 and the first deposit installment is due by Monday December 18. We appreciate that the turnaround is tight, and we are providing timelines and as much advance notice as possible. Full application selection processes are described in the applicant package.   
 
Holiday Fundraisers 
Grade 8 Leadership is organizing a Toy Mountain donation drive. The goal of this fundraising drive is to make holiday dreams come true for children by donating a new unwrapped toy, teen gift, gift card or cash donation. 
We are also collecting food donations for the Calgary Food Bank. Items on their Holiday Wish List include cereal, canned items (meat, veggies, beans, and pasta sauce), and baby formula. 
Fundraising will run from December 11th to 22nd @ the DGS front foyer. Cash donations should be left in the front office.
