Important Dates

We follow the CBE traditional calendar. The calendar sets common start and end days, non-instructional days and holidays. For our school’s additional non-instructional days, late entries, early dismissal days and events, see our school calendar page.

The Calgary Board of Education continues to plan for the health measures that may be in place for the next school year. More details will be shared with families before the first day of classes.

First Day of Classes

Important Information for the First Days of School

The Main Office Re-Opens on Wednesday August 25, 2021.

Soft Entry: Doors are open for students each day at 7:50 am. Supervision is provided in classrooms. This time is intended for students to settle into their classrooms prior to the start of classes.

School Start Time: 8:15 am M-F

School End Time: 2:55 pm M-T, 11:55 am F

Doors:   Grade 6 and 7 students enter through the Main Doors of the school

Grade 8 and 9 students enter through the student doors closest to the staff parking lot

Masking: The CBE has implemented a system wide K-12, adult inclusive mandate to wear a mask. As with last year, provisions for mask exemptions exist. Mask exemptions that were approved last year will be continued into September- we do ask that families who believe their child requires an exemption review the documentation located at  This document contains links to both the AR on Student Health Services and the Student Health Plan. We ask that you provide your student with spare masks to keep at school in the event a mask is forgotten, breaks, or is lost over the course of the school day. We have a small number of emergency masks available in the main office.

Cohorting: In keeping with the current CBE mandate, Grade 6 students will be cohorted by homeroom. In order to best facilitate this, Exploratory Courses will now be offered to Grade 6’s on a wheel by homeroom. Lunchtime Supervision for Grade 6 will be cohorted. There will be opportunities for Grade 6 students to purchase items from the canteen and participate in noon-hour activities in their cohorts. More information regarding the potential for Grade 6 students to participate in interschool athletics and clubs will be available during the first week of classes.

Closed Campus: Dr. George Stanley School will remain a CLOSED campus at lunchtime. Students will be able to purchase food from the canteen starting Tuesday September 7 and Health Hunger deliveries will start the week of September 20. Students who walk home for lunch must do so consistently, leave campus as soon as their lunch hour starts, return no more than 5 minutes before the start of afternoon classes and must sign in and out of the main office daily.

Exploratories: Exploratory courses will begin the week of September 13, 2021. This will allow for final adjustments to student numbers in Grades 7-9.

Extra-curricular Activities: Final format for extra-curricular activities is being formalized this week. Further information will be sent out the week of August 30, 2021. Pending approval of in-school volunteers, we do anticipate a need for one more Parent Volunteer Soccer Coach. The season runs from Sept 1- Oct 31. Please email Sherry Collens at if you are interested.

Lockers: Decisions regarding use of lockers specific to our site will be communicated to families in advance of September 1. While lockers are able to be accessed, many schools are considering alternatives to lockers.

Cell Phones: We will be implementing an “Away for the Day” Cell Phone plan for the 2021-2022 School Year. It’s time for a bit of a digital detox- for the month of September, all students phones will be put away at the start of the day and will be retrieved at 3:15 pm. This policy will be reviewed for October and may include student access to their phones over the lunch hour. If you need to contact your child during the day, please phone the school at 403 817 3556.

School Supplies:

Grade 6 students are provided with all basic learning materials. Please send your child with a backpack, lunch, water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray (if your family uses it) and masks.

Students in Grades 7-9 will be provided with a list of needed learning materials on September 1. Please note that teachers are very understanding of timelines and will not be making unrealistic demands of families related to specific items. If a student starts the year with a binder, lined paper, pens and pencils, subject dividers and a basic scientific calculator, they will be just fine. In addition, please send your child with a backpack, lunch, water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray (if your family uses it) and masks.

Our first day of classes is Wednesday, September 1, 2021, and the school office is open to parents on Friday, August 27, 2021.
