Attendance Line: 403-777-7780 ext. 1
Regular and punctual attendance is necessary for learning and school progress and this responsibility is for both students and parents or guardians to make sure students are attending school and are on time for class.
If your child will be missing school, please phone the school at 403-777-7780 and then press “1” to report their absence. The absent line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If your child has an appointment, please send a note to the school so we can release him or her at the proper time. When an absence is necessary, parents and guardians are responsible to report this to the main office and are asked to phone the school before 8:30 AM. If leaving a message, please include the student’s name, homeroom, reason for absence and duration of absence.
Students absent without reason and without a phone call from a parent or guardian will be marked as truant. Students frequently absent without a valid reason will be referred to the Calgary Board of Education Attendance Officer. Parents and student may be requested to appear in court. (Administrative Regulation 6020)
Students are responsible for obtaining and completing all school work that is missed while absent, including making arrangements to write tests that occurred during the absence upon their return.
Late Arrival & Early Dismissal
It is important that our students arrive on time for school. Valuable instructional time is lost when students arrive even a few minutes late and students entering the class late disrupt the learning environment. Please ensure that your children are leaving home with enough time to arrive at school, get to their lockers and are prepared to enter class. If students are arriving at the following times, they will have ample time to be organized: morning – 8:15 AM, afternoon – 12:45 PM.
Students who arrive at school after the late bell need to obtain a late slip from the office. Late arrival can be excused for medical appointments or by having a parent or guardian contact the school to excuse the late arrival. Students who do not have a valid excuse will need to make up missed time with a 15 minute detention. Those students late in the morning will serve their detention at lunch and those students who are late in the afternoon will serve their detention after school. Students who are regularly and habitually late for school or who do not serve their late detentions, will be referred to the school administrators.
Permission to be Excused or Leave the Building
Permission to be excused from school can only be granted by the office upon request by a parent/guardian. Under no circumstances can a student leave the school grounds during school hours without first obtaining permission from the office.
Student Extended Leaves
When planning a family vacation or extended absence, students need to fill out an “Extended Absence Form” from the office. Students will get each of their teachers to complete the form with expectations while away and have parents sign it. A copy is sent home to parents. Any absences longer than 2 weeks require a Home Supported Leave application.
