Dress Code

Students are expected to maintain acceptable dress and grooming practices. Students are requested to adhere to these guidelines in order to maintain a healthy, non-distracting atmosphere that promotes learning for all students and that facilitates comfortable interaction within the school community. Student and parental cooperation following these guidelines is greatly appreciated.

Dress should be modest, appropriate for the school setting, sensitive to the values and expectations of the community, and conducive to a safe environment. The guidelines are:

  • Printing and graphics on t-shirts must be respectable and appropriate
  • Clothing must be clean and well maintained
  • Shirts and tops must have reasonable shoulder straps
  • Dresses and skirts should be long enough to allow for comfort and privacy when moving, bending, climbing stairs, sitting in chairs and on the floor.
  • Shirts and pants must cover mid-section of the body
  • Hats and baseball caps are not to be worn in the building.
  • Students who come to school inappropriately dressed will be asked to change, according to Administrative Regulation 6010 - Standards of Dress and Grooming.

Dressing for the Weather

Parental cooperation is required to ensure all students are dressed appropriately for the weather. In wet weather, students should have umbrellas and/or rainwear. On days when the weather is extremely cold (-20C or lower or days with a high windchill factor) or extremely wet, supervision of students will be provided indoors.

Footwear

To keep our school clean, children are expected to remove outside footwear when entering the school. Indoor shoes are required for in-class and physical education activities. Students need to be able to independently put their inside and outside shoes on. Shoes need to be non-marking running shoes for gym activities to ensure comfort and safety. Parents and guests are also requested to remove dirty and/or wet footwear when entering the school.
