Regular Program at the CBE

Even though most of our schools offer a regular program, no two are quite the same. All schools teach according to Alberta Education’s mandated curriculum, however a school’s focus, optional courses and school activities are as unique as every school.

Program, Focus & Approach

Program of Studies

All CBE schools follow the Alberta Program of Studies. Information is available on the “Parent” section of the Alberta Education website. Teachers will also provide information about classroom work through our school blogs. Please watch for more information from your child’s teacher.

Home Communication

We know that we make the greatest impact on student learning when school staff and families work closely together on behalf of students. We use twitter, email, and school messenger so that students, teachers and parents can communicate regularly about topics such as the work that is occurring in the classroom, homework, special event reminders, upcoming appointments or absences, and overdue library books.

Homework Guidelines

CBE policies suggest that families to set aside some regular time each evening for home study. The amount of time varies from 5-10 minutes in Division I, to 20 minutes in Division II. We strongly encourage children to read each night, either with an adult or independently. We encourage families to create a homework location and develop a homework routine so that good habits are built and sustained. For example, providing a quiet location with the necessary tools and some adult supervision ensures that students can build their concentration, access resources independently and gain support when needed. Homework will be noted in the agenda and details will often be provided on D2L.
