COVID-19 Variant of Concern Case at Elbow Park School

April 2, 2021

Dear parents/guardians,

An individual at Elbow Park School who was previously diagnosed with COVID-19 has recently been identified as having a COVID-19 Variant of Concern (VOC).

For everyone’s health and safety, we are working directly with Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the public health inspector to ensure all spaces in our school are thoroughly cleaned and any additional steps are taken, prior to the school re-opening following spring break. We will continue to work directly with and follow the recommendations of AHS, Alberta Education and Alberta Health.

AHS will communicate directly with all identified close contacts of the case and will provide additional information on testing recommendations and quarantine requirements for those directly impacted. More information on COVID-19 variants can be found at alberta.ca/covid-19-variants.aspx.

To help protect the well-being of our students and staff, please keep your child home after spring break if they experience any COVID-19 symptoms or have been out of the country in the last 14 days.

Please let the school know that your child is home because of COVID-19 and take the self-assessment or call Health Link at 811 to determine if you or any member of your family needs to be tested.

Thank you for playing a part in keeping our school community safe. If you have questions, please call Health Link at 811.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

We have been notified today that another case of COVID-19 was diagnosed in an individual at our school. Based on the information that we have at this moment, no additional students or staff have been impacted. At this time, the school does not have official confirmation on this fourth (4th) case from Alberta Health Services (AHS). If the positive case is later identified as a variant of concern, Alberta Health Services will follow up to ensure all close contacts are identified and notified.

As always, we remind parents/guardians of students, as well as any staff/visitors/volunteers to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.The Alberta Health daily checklist can be found here. Please remember to complete the checklist each day prior to attending school.

If you/your child has any of the symptoms of illness listed on the Alberta Health daily checklist, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811 and stay home/keep your child at home. If you choose to book an online COVID-19 test, please use the Elbow Park School specific EI alert number for case tracking: 2021-EI-3258

During the spring break, Alberta Health Services will continue to work with the CBE to ensure school communities are notified if any students may have been contagious with COVID-19 while in school. A general notice identifying the class and/or courses and dates of exposure will be sent to the school community once it is confirmed by AHS. You do not need to notify the school if your child receives a positive COVID-19 result over the break.

Take care and stay well.

Dear Parent / Guardian,

This morning, the school used a PreAlert message to notify our community of a new third positive case of COVID-19 that had been reported by a family or staff member to us earlier today. At that time, the school did not have official confirmation from Alberta Health Services (AHS). The purpose of this message is to inform you that AHS has now confirmed this case. This letter is not a notification of another new case today.

The school had already contacted each family or staff member affected by the positive case and now, AHS will follow up. If you were not identified as a close contact, then your child(ren) were not affected by the positive case. The quarantine dates provided to close contacts in the pre-alert this morning have been confirmed by AHS.

A reminder again that since two or more cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at Elbow Park School, the Medical Officer of Health has declared an Alert. If you choose to book an online COVID-19 test, please use this school specific EI alert number for case tracking: 2021-EI-3258. This EI # does not provide speedier access to testing; however, it currently ensures testing availability and it serves to ‘link’ potential cases together. When booking a test online, the registrant provides an institution/school specific number.

We remind parents/guardians of students to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. Please remember to complete the Alberta daily checklist each day prior to attending school. Daily checklist

If you/your child has any of the symptoms of illness listed on the Alberta Health daily checklist, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811 and stay home/keep your child at home.

We will continue to provide additional information to parents / guardians as it is available.

Sincerely,

We have been notified by Alberta Health Services (AHS) that two cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in individuals from Elbow Park school.

Our school remains open to in-person learning for all students, and we are working closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures continue to be in place to protect all staff and students. This includes the cleaning and disinfecting of all items touched by the individual, and the removal and storage of all items that cannot be cleaned and disinfected (paper, books, etc.)  in a sealed container for a minimum of 72 hours.

The school has already contacted each family or staff member affected by the positive case, and AHS will be following up only with those individuals. If you were not contacted, your child(ren) are not affected by the positive case.

All students directed to quarantine by AHS will be supported in maintaining course work during the designated period through Google Classroom. They will not join Hub online learning.

We remind parents/guardians of students, as well as any staff/visitors/volunteers to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.The Alberta Health daily checklist can be found here. Please remember to complete the checklist each day prior to attending school.
