Parents/guardians can make a meaningful difference for Elbow Park students by participating on our school’s parent society. The Elbow Park Parent Society (“EPPS”) was formed approximately 10-years ago by a group of committed Elbow Park parents that wanted to raise funds for the benefit of our school. Parent societies are a formal group of parents, incorporated under the Societies Act, for the purpose of raising funds for the school. A society is a separate legal entity from the school council and school administration. More information can be found in our CBE Administrative Regulation 5001 – School Councils and School/Parent Societies.
Our Parent Society is known as Elbow Park School Parent Society (EPPS).
Some of the activities undertaken by our Society include: fundraising; organizing of social activities for the children; donation of supplies, services and society expenses; coordination of charitable activities; special lunches; and more. These activities have a major impact on the success and enjoyment of the children at the school.
Examples of what our fundraising efforts have purchased are:
- Playground equipment upgrades
- Providing financial assistance to James Short
- Outdoor Boulder Classroom
- Planting trees and shrubs to create our naturalization area
- Class set of 25 iPads for student use
- Core academic residencies/guest speakers including:
- Trickster Theatre
- Jeff Stockton oral storyteller and harpist
- Author Visits
- Mad Science
- Curatolo Political Cartoons
- Evergreen Theatre
- Many residencies for Physical Education including:

- Sound Creations Hip Hop Dance
- iXL Math and Language Arts online subscription

Our Priorities
Through formal and informal input and feedback from parents, EPPS has identified the following top-three priorities for funds raised through donations and charitable activities. In consultation with the acting Elbow Park Principal, these priorities guide how EPPS funds are spent annually:
- Guest speakers & activities related to core subject enrichment (e.g. MadScience, Tyrell Museum virtual visit, author writing/speaking workshops)
- Facility upgrades (e.g. picnic tables, outdoor rock circle classroom, playground equipment)
- Physical Education residences (e.g.,lacrosse, curling, x-country skiing, etc)
