It has been a busy month with lots of laughter, music, dancing, and art! We are thankful for the memories we are making together in our virtual meetings - getting to share our favourite songs, and being introduced to one another's adorable pet dogs (and a fuzzy rabbit!). Our learning is matching what is going on outside, and we are exploring gardening, flower growth, bumblebees, and caterpillars/butterflies next. We also started collaborating with Kim's class to explore our connection to the Earth and nature through Indigenous Ways of Knowing. We look forward to learning more about the different ways we can learn outdoors.
Yahya and Saleh are graduating from Emily Follensbee this year. We will miss our two friends so much! We are excited to celebrate them and do what we can virtually to give them a huge cheer for all their growth and learning! I know that your next chapters in life are going to bring new friends, opportunities, achievements, joy, and smiles. We hope you all our families have a great summer and we look forward to seeing you in September!
This month we are really starting to dive into home learning! We have all seen big changes in our lives and the ways we learn, but I am so touched by the hard work each parent and family member is doing to support their child's learning. We are all learning new and exciting ways that we can engage our learners in meaningful opportunities to build communication. Another change that we have seen this month is the transition from winter to spring! Much of our learning has focused on the changes we see, hear, smell, and/or feel in spring.
We have just returned from a very exciting field trip to Telus Spark! We saw and listened to a presentation called 'Global Soundscapes' which focused on capturing sounds from around the world. We are reading books, writing and talking about places we can go in our community. This week we have focused on our sense of hearing and have been listening to interesting sounds around us, our sense of hearing and learning about the ears. We've heard the sound of wind blowing and leaves crunching on the ground - it must be Fall!
We've had a great transition back to school this year! We welcomed two new students to our class, Sebastian and Clare J! They have both already settled into our routine and we are enjoying getting to know you both! So far, our focus has been on getting to know each other. We've done some writing on things we like and don't like about summer. Our students are enjoying lots of time on our deck while the weather is nice. Next month we will focus on our school community and seasonal changes.
