Welcome to the 2023-24 School Year

Important Dates

We follow the CBE instructional calendar. The calendar sets common start and end days, non-instructional days and holidays. For our school’s additional non-instructional days, late entries, early dismissal days and events, see our school calendar page.

Back to School Information

First Day of Classes

Our first day of classes is Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023 and the school office is open to parents starting on Monday, Aug. 28, 2023,  9:30 AM– 2:00 PM. Regular office hours will commence Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023 from 8:00 AM– 3:30 PM.

All Grades 1 – 4 students will attend school daily beginning on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023. Welcoming emails from classroom teachers will be sent to each family after 1:00 PM on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023 and that is when students will know who their assigned classroom teacher will be.  This email will also indicate the dedicated entry door for each child and students are asked to gather at the indicate door for first day entry. All teachers will be outside on the compound greeting students and families beginning at 8:05 AM Aug. 31, 2023. Parents are always welcome inside the school as volunteers with current police clearances but the expectation continues that children will enter school independently and adults will remain outside once the bell rings and students enter the building.  This enables the school to be confident as to who is in the building and the students will continue to be able to move freely and independently around the school to meet their own learning needs.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten classes, both AM and PM, will have staggered entry days on Thursday,  Aug. 31 and Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, as per a schedule that will be emailed to parents in late August.  The first day of regular Kindergarten classes will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023 and alternating Friday schedule will begin on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023 with the AM Kindergarten students attending. Kindergarten students will not be assigned to a particular teacher until Friday Sept. 1 – families will receive a welcoming email from their assigned Kindergarten teacher on the afternoon of Sept. 1, 2023. Kindergarten is a co-teaching environment where multiple educators work with the students – assigned teachers will be the primary contact educator for parents and hold responsibility for personalizing learning through collaboration for their assigned class list of students.

School Supplies

Classroom School supplies will be provided to students upon arrival on their first day of school. The cost for supplies will be added to your MyCBE parent account. Please ensure your child comes to school with a backpack, lunch with snacks and a clean pair of indoor runners – preferably comfortable running shoes with Velcro fasteners, and will be kept at school. For kindergarten all the same applies however no lunch is required but please provide 3-4 snacks for your child.

School Calendar

Dates specific to our school can be found on our school calendar. See the CBE website for system calendars.

Lunch Supervision

Eric Harvie School has a fully supervised lunchroom program for students in Grades 1 – 4. Families must register online through their MyCBE account. Registered students need to bring a nutritious lunch (reasonably sized) they can eat in a 20 – 25 minute period of time. Students eat in their classrooms and then have a whole school playtime outside together. We have a fully staffed Lunchroom Program that establishes expectations and supervise students for the lunch block.

Assigned Teachers

Welcoming emails from classroom teachers will be sent to each family after 1:00 PM on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023 and that is when students will know who their assigned classroom teacher will be.  This email will also indicate the dedicated entry door for each child and students are asked to gather at the indicate door for first day entry.

Registration Information

Please visit our How to Register page for all registration details and registration forms. Please note that the registration process is completed online, but schools can assist with any questions.

Yellow School Bus Transportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2023-24 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in June. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

More information about 2023-24 transportation service levels and proposed fees are posted on the CBE website.

Your bus stop location and time will be available in your MyCBE account by mid-August.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed. Should routes change or if qualified students are added to a route and the bus becomes overcrowded, conditional riders may be removed to accommodate these changes.

Learn more about transportation on the CBE website.
