Traffic Safety

Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.

Parking & Drop-Off

Outside Supervision

Staff will be wearing orange safety vests while on supervision so students can easily identify staff members.

Arrival at School

There is no supervision in the morning prior to 8:15. School begins at 8:30 and students are expected to arrive at school on time ready to learn. Students are to arrive with enough time to line up at their designated doors with their class. City bylaws dictate that no animals are to be on the school grounds. Parents walking their child to school with a pet are to say good-bye at the edge of the school grounds.

Exiting School

Students are expected to go home promptly when they are dismissed. Parent support in this regard is greatly appreciated. Teachers will let students out their specific door at 3:15 and see that they are on their way home. By clearing the school grounds, incidents between children are minimized and students who are not picked up can be quickly identified. Once they have gone home, children may return to the school grounds after and are then under their parents’ care. We ask your co-operation in reinforcing these rules.

Drivers

All drivers need to be following the rules of the road within playground zones. Remember it is illegal to double park and to do U-turns in the middle of the playground zones. We have one bus  to transport students. The bus zones, as indicated by signs, are to be kept clear to allow parking for the bus. Parents should be modeling excellent pedestrian behaviour by having their child use the crosswalks and not run between vehicles or jay walk. We want our students to be safe and appreciate the parents support to ensure they are.

School Safety Patrols

Our AMA School Safety Patrol program is in full swing! The patrollers have trained very hard and are very excited to help our community safely cross the street. This group of students freely offer their time to both make our school a safer place and to demonstrate leadership and responsibility to our student body.

Parents/Guardians, please use the crosswalk to cross the street, have your child wear a helmet when riding a bike, park in safe spots, and wait for our patrollers to let you know when to cross.
