Biology 20/30

Biology 20  (5 credits)

Prerequisite Recommendation:  65% or greater in Science 10.

This highly academic program explores the interactions of living systems with one another and with their environment. This program emphasizes the context of science by considering the interrelationships among science, technology and society. In Biology 20, the underlying theme is energy and matter exchange.

The four topics covered are:

  • Energy and Matter Exchange in the Biosphere      
  • Ecosystems and Population Change
  • Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration
  • Human Systems

Laboratory work will reinforce the theoretical concepts


Biology 30  (5 credits)

Prerequisite Recommendation:  65% or greater in Biology 20.

This highly academic program explores the interactions of living systems with one another and with their environment. This program emphasizes the context of science by considering the interrelationships among science, technology and society. In Biology 30, the emphasis is on adaptation and change.

The four topics covered are:

  • Nervous and Endocrine Systems
  • Reproduction and Development
  • Cell Division, Genetics and Molecular Biology
  • Population and Community Dynamics

Laboratory work will reinforce the theoretical concepts

Note:  Completion of Biology 30 requires the writing of a provincial diploma examination and this course is a prerequisite for many science based programs at post-secondary institutions.
