Attendance Line: 403-777-7800 ext 1
Students are expected to arrive at school on time ready to learn.
Regular school attendance and punctuality is a law set out by the Province of Alberta
through the Education Act, June 2016, sections 7 (Compulsory Education), 8 (Enforcing
School Attendance), and 9 (Attendance at School). This document is available at
http://www.qp.alberta.ca/documents/Acts/e00p3.pdf. The document outlines acceptable
reasons for absence and consequences for frequent, late, or non-attendance.
The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students –
outlines our belief that there is a
strong positive correlation between attendance and effective education. Therefore, students
registered in school or programs shall attend regularly and punctually. It is the responsibility
of parents to ensure compliance with this requirement and the responsibility of schools to
ensure that parents are informed promptly when the attendance of students is not
satisfactory.
Parents are requested to call the office if their child will be absent or late. When calling the
office for attendance, please state your child’s name, teacher, your name, and relationship
to the child. Students who arrive late must check in at the office before going to class.
When lates or absences are excessive, parents or guardians will receive a letter requesting
to meet with school administration. We would like to work with parents to support their child
in improving their attendance. Our first task in meeting with you is to understand your child’s
needs and then develop a plan to support greater school success.
The Strength of Community
One of our primary goals is to model good citizenship and problem-solving for our students. We ask that students come to the school with a focus on moving learning forward and solving problems in a respectful manner. The school personnel will do the same.
