One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

The mission of the Ernest Morrow School Council is to foster the well being and effectiveness of our school community and to enhance student learning.

Our School Council will facilitate communication among all of the concerned participants of our school community so that we may work together, as partners, to create an effective learning environment and enable our students to achieve their potential

The objectives of the council, in keeping with the School Act and the regulations, are as follows:

  1. To provide advice (input) to the staff and principal.
  2. To promote continuous school improvement through meaningful involvement by all members of the school community.
  3. To facilitate collaboration among all concerned participants of the school community.
  4. To support collaborative decision making.
  5. To facilitate the development of a common vision for our school, a vision that is an extension of the School Improvement Plan.
  6. To complete a formal School Council Review to be included in the Annual School Report to be completed no later than June 15 each year.
  7. To keep the Calgary Board of Education informed – in cooperation with the principal – of the needs of the school.
  8. To facilitate communication with all educational stake holders and the community.
  9. To promote actively any endeavors that serve or support a positive school image and that serve the general positive image of the community of Forest Lawn.

Another day on the land. Looking at last year’s sage, rose hips, the “eyes” of the aspen, golden sap, and of course crocuses. #WeAreCBE https://t.co/BojtoKN2Wo

A wonderful day for the grade 7’s to experience some Land Based Learning. It was HOT but full of beauty. The Budding Moon is near and the signs of Moyoyi (Blackfoot for spring) were everywhere. Grade 6’s go tomorrow. #WeAreCBE https://t.co/2qsw9B4hAz
