Staggered Entry Plan - Monday, August 15, 2022

This is for all students during the first day of school. We are beginning our school year this way to limit the number of students entering the school at one time.

Parents/guardians will not be allowed in the school unless they need to register a student at the main office.  If parents/guardians are accompanying student(s) to school, they will need to say goodbyes outside at designated entry doors.

The purpose of the plan is:

  • To ease the transition of students into school,
  • To spend time with smaller groups familiarizing them with school protocols and processes,
  • To allow each child and accompanying family member to have a successful and memorable “first day of school” drop-off.
  • Only students are allowed in the building. Parents who are dropping children off will need to say their goodbyes near designated entrance doors.

Our Staggered Entry Plan for the first day for Grade 6-9 Students is as follows:

Monday, August 15, 2022

  • Students in Grade 6/7/Bridges/LEAD/PLP will attend from 8:25 AM – 3:08 PM (lunch 12:23 – 1:14 PM).
  • Students in Grade 8/9 will attend from 1:14 PM - 3:08PM.
    • Grade 8/9 students will not have access to the building/classrooms until 1:14 PM.

Tuesday, August 16, 2022

  • ALL students attend from 8:25 AM – 3:08 PM (lunch 12:23 – 1:14 PM).

  • Breakfast program doors (main entry) will be open at 8:00 AM.

  • All entry doors will be open at 8:15 AM.

Microwaves

Microwaves will be available for student use in the 2022-2023 school year.

School Supply Lists

For the 2022-2023 school year, school supplies are provided for Gr. 6 students as there is a system fee that will be applied to all Gr. 6 students.  Gr. 7,8,9 students are responsible to bring their own supplies to school.  This includes but is not limited to:

  • Pens/Pencils
  • Pencil Crayons
  • Paper
  • Binder(s)
  • Calculator (scientific for Gr. 7,8,9).

School supply lists will also distributed by teachers the first week of school along with course outlines.

School Calendar

We are a school that follows the Modified school calendar. View our school's Calendar for upcoming events and dates.

For system calendars, please visit: www.cbe.ab.ca/registration/calendars

Lunch Supervision

Lunchroom supervision is provided for Grade 6 students who remain at the school for lunch.  There is a system Lunch Supervision fee applied to all Grade 6 students in the regular program that stay at EMS for lunch.  Parents need to identify whether their child is staying for lunch or going home. Grade 6 students must remain in the lunchroom/classroom until 12:45 and then they may be outside on school grounds or go to one of the lunchroom offerings.

Grade 7- 9 students are allowed to go off campus for lunch with the expectation they conduct themselves in a manner that represents Ernest Morrow well while out in the community. They are expected to return to classes on time after lunch.

Registration Information

Please visit our How to Register page for all registration details and registration forms.

Our school office opens on Thursday, August 11, 2022 @ 9am for registration.

Calgary Transit

Students at Ernest Morrow School will use Calgary Transit to get to school. The transit routes are direct and all rides are less than 10 minutes to get to school. Calgary Transit works closely with the Calgary Board of Education to ensure a successful ride is experienced by all students. If parents have any questions, please visit the Calgary Board of Education website or call Calgary Transit.

Yellow School Bus Transportation (PLP/Bridges ONLY)

Yellow school bus routes for the 2022-23 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in June. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

More information about 2022-23 transportation service levels and proposed fees are posted on the CBE website.

Your bus stop location and time will be available in your MyCBE account by mid-August.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed.

Learn more about transportation on the CBE website.
