Staggered Entry Plan - Thursday, August 31, 2023

This is for all students during the first day of school. We are beginning our school year this way to limit the number of students entering the school at one time.

Parents/guardians will not be allowed in the school unless they need to register a student at the main office.  If parents/guardians are accompanying student(s) to school, they will need to say goodbyes outside at designated entry doors.

The purpose of the plan is:

  • To ease the transition of students into school,
  • To spend time with smaller groups familiarizing them with school protocols and processes,
  • To allow each child and accompanying family member to have a successful and memorable “first day of school” drop-off.
  • Only students are allowed in the building. Parents who are dropping children off will need to say their goodbyes near designated entrance doors.

Our Staggered Entry Plan for the first day for Grade 6-9 Students is as follows:

Thursday, August 31, 2023

  • Students in Grade 6/7/Bridges/LEAD/PLP will attend from 8:23 AM – 3:08 PM (lunch 12:23 – 1:14 PM).
  • Students in Grade 8/9 will attend from 1:14 PM - 3:08PM.
    • Grade 8/9 students will not have access to the building/classrooms until 1:14 PM.

Friday,  September 1, 2023

  • ALL students attend from 8:23 AM – 12:15 PM

  • Breakfast program doors (main entry) will be open at 8:00 AM. The breakfast program begins Wednesday, September 6

  • All entry doors will be open at 8:15 AM.

Microwaves

Microwaves will be available for student use in the 2023-2024 school year.

School Supplies

For the 2023-2024 school year, school supplies are provided for Grade 6 students as there is a system fee that will be applied to all Grade 6 students.  Grade 7,8,9 students are responsible to bring their own supplies to school.  This includes but is not limited to:

  • Pens/Pencils
  • Pencil Crayons
  • Paper
  • Binder(s)
  • Calculator (scientific for Grades 7,8,9).

School supply lists will also distributed by teachers the first week of school along with course outlines.

School Calendar

View our  School Calendar for upcoming events and dates. See the CBE website for system calendars.

Lunch Supervision

Lunchroom supervision is provided for Grade 6 students who remain at the school for lunch.  There is a system Lunch Supervision fee applied to all Grade 6 students in the regular program that stay at EMS for lunch.  Parents need to identify whether their child is staying for lunch or going home. Grade 6 students must remain in the lunchroom/classroom until 12:45 and then they may be outside on school grounds or go to one of the lunchroom offerings.

Grade 7- 9 students are allowed to go off campus for lunch with the expectation they conduct themselves in a manner that represents Ernest Morrow well while out in the community. They are expected to return to classes on time after lunch.

The Ernest Morrow Cafeteria will open Monday, September 11.

Yellow School Bus Transportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2023-24 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in June. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

More information about 2023-24 transportation service levels and proposed fees are posted on the CBE website.

Your bus stop location and time will be available in your MyCBE account by mid-August.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed. Should routes change or if qualified students are added to a route and the bus becomes overcrowded, conditional riders may be removed to accommodate these changes.

Learn more about transportation on the CBE website.

Calgary Transit

Some students from our school use Calgary Transit to get to and from school.

There are different Calgary Transit fares and passes options and purchasing locations. Students must carry proof of fare every time they use Calgary Transit. More information about fares and routes are available on the CBE website or the Calgary Transit website.

Families can access low-income monthly passes through the City of Calgary's Fair Entry Program. This program offers a streamlined application process for City subsidy programs, including reduced rates for transit passes. You can find more information about the program at www.calgary.ca/fairentry.

Calgary Transit has a “Plan a Trip” tool or families can also call 403-262-1000 for assistance with route planning and questions about Calgary Transit operations. Families do not need to register to use Calgary Transit, including school express routes.
